Holly Elementary Happenings
OCTOBER
Schwartz's Scoop
10.30.2026
Dear Holly Elementary Families,
It is hard to believe that we are already preparing to turn the calendar to November. The first few months of school have flown by, and we have so much to celebrate at Holly Elementary!
As we approach the end of our first trimester in late November, I want to encourage our students to finish strong. These next several weeks are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, take pride in their progress, and continue developing positive habits.
At Holly Elementary, we continue to emphasize the importance of student effort, perseverance, and taking ownership of learning. We remind students that success isn't always about getting everything right the first time, but rather giving their best effort, learning from mistakes, and continuing to grow.
We are also reinforcing our LEAD expectations by encouraging students to listen to others, encourage one another, act responsibly, and display kindness and respect. As the excitement of the holiday season approaches, it is especially important that students remain focused, follow expectations, and make positive choices throughout the school day.
Daily attendance continues to be a priority in every classroom. Every school day matters, and consistent attendance plays an important role in student learning, academic growth, and building positive routines. When students are at school each day, they benefit from valuable instruction, meaningful connections with peers, and opportunities to grow as learners and leaders. We appreciate your commitment to making school attendance a priority and ensuring students arrive on time and ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. Together, we can help our students finish the first trimester feeling proud of their accomplishments and ready for continued success.

Lice Letter
Date: 2026/2027
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are sending this letter to all parents to increase head lice awareness, so that you may take steps at home to help prevent your child from becoming infested with head lice. Any time children come together, particularly at the start of the school year or following any social grouping like sports, after school events, or sleepovers, detected head lice cases commonly increase. Recent studies show that head lice are seldom spread in the school setting.
Direct, physical, head-to-head contact is the usual method of transmission. Lice do not jump or fly. They survive only for a short time away from the human head and have difficulty crawling or clinging to smooth surfaces. Check your child’s head weekly for lice and/or nits (eggs). Mature lice, which are no bigger than a sesame seed, avoid light and are hard to see. Lice eggs or “nits” are usually found close to the scalp – usually within one quarter inch. They appear as tiny whitish ovals that are “glued” to the hair shaft. They cannot easily be flicked away as dandruff can. Head lice do not transmit disease and are not a serious medical condition. They cannot survive on your pets.
If you find head lice on your child, please notify the school and treat him/her with lice shampoo following package instructions. A second treatment may be required in seven to ten days. Continue to examine the child and all family members for three weeks and treat only if live lice or if nits are found one quarter inch or less from the scalp.
Check Regularly – Treat Quickly
Help Keep Head Lice Off Your Child
Check your child’s head weekly for signs of head lice.
Teach your child not to share or trade personal items such as hats, combs, brushes, headbands, and barrettes.
Contain long hair in braids or ponytails, especially in younger children.
Teach children to avoid head-to-head contact.
For more information regarding head lice or its treatment, please feel free to contact the school office or your local health department.
Thank you for your help and support.
Sincerely,
Nurse Jessica
