8th Grade Update

On Friday, 12/5, 8th graders participated in a meeting with the principal and the 8th grade counselor to review culmination requirements and determine if they are eligible to participate in the ceremony as of the 5 week progress report.

Please check in with your 8th grader and ask them to show you their yellow paper that includes their status and the goals they set to make improvements in academics, work habits, and cooperation grades. Students have 10 more days to make improvements in their final 20 week grades and all are encouraged to reach out to their teachers for guidance on what to work on to improve.

Students should also be reviewing Schoology to see if there is any missing work that needs to be handed in or if there are low test scores that may be able to be redone. Remember that for late work, students need to let their teachers know they handed it in so the teacher can check it and determine a grade.

Updated: We Are One

The safety and wellbeing of every student remains our highest priority. In light of the recent Supreme Court decision lifting restrictions on immigration enforcement actions in the Los Angeles area, we want to reaffirm: every student is welcome and safe in our schools, regardless of immigration status.

District policy is clear – immigration enforcement agents are not allowed on our campus without proper legal authorization. All staff are trained to follow strict protocols to protect student privacy and maintain safe learning environments.

We are also working closely with city leaders and community partners to strengthen safety measures, ensure clear communication, and respond quickly if enforcement activity occurs near schools.

Resources are available at www.lausd.org/weareone, including Know Your Rights materials, legal referrals, and mental health resources. Families with any concerns are encouraged to contact their school administrator or call our Family Hotline directly at (213) 443-1300.

Los Angeles Unified stands united in protecting our students and families. Together, we will continue to uphold the values of equity, inclusion, and respect that define our school communities.

Students will be issued a pouch to store their phones starting on the first day of school. All families have the option of leaving the phone at home. If students bring it to school, they are expected to store it away in the pouch before entering the gate and will be allowed to unlock the device as they exit the campus. GETTING TO SCHOOL SAFELY!

As we kick off the new school year, I want to take a moment to encourage everyone to stay mindful of traffic safety whether walking, biking, or driving to campus. Please take a moment to review the attached August Traffic Safety Tips, which offer helpful reminders to ensure everyone gets to and from school safely.

In particular, I urge extra caution when traveling through the area near {Insert Intersection Cross Streets}. This intersection tends to be especially busy during drop-off and pick-up times, so let’s stay alert and considerate of one another.

Wishing you all a safe and successful start to the school year!

Last three weeks of school

We are down to the last three weeks before grades are finalized for the fall semester. 8th graders MUST pass classes and NOT have Unsatisfactory "U" for work habits and cooperation.

What should each student do?

  1. Check the 15 week progress report
  2. Did they earn an "F" for a failed class
  3. Did they earn a "U" for Unsatisfactory in Work habits (WH) or Cooperation (CP)?
  4. If yes to an F or a U, have student or guardian reach out to that teacher via Schoology to ask what can be done to improve that grade
  5. Check Schoology for missing assignments. When turning in late assignments, don't forget to message your teacher to let them know you have submitted an assignment.
