SR3 Parent Connection

September 2025
A Note from the Superintendent
As we dive into the heart of the school year, it’s time to “saddle up” and keep the momentum going! Just like a strong team of riders, our success depends on every student showing up, giving their best, and celebrating together.
One of the biggest ways parents can support learning is by ensuring students are at school, on time, every day. When students miss class, they miss important instruction and connections that can’t be replaced. We’ve already seen that consistent attendance directly supports both academic and social growth. Thank you for making school a priority—it makes all the difference!
We are thrilled to share that Savannah R-III students showed growth in their MAP scores last year. This is proof that our students’ hard work, the dedication of our teachers, and your partnership at home are paying off. Growth is our goal, and we are proud of the way our students continue to rise to the challenge.
Mark your calendars! Homecoming is just around the corner, and this year’s theme is “Saddle Up, Savages!” We’re excited for a week filled with school spirit, community pride, and celebrations of all that makes Savannah strong. From the parade to the big game, we hope you’ll join us in cheering on our students and showing what it means to be part of the Savage family.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian Hansen

Attendance Matters!
Every school day is an important opportunity for students to learn and grow. Missing even a couple of days each month can add up quickly, making it harder for kids to keep up. The best way families can support strong attendance is by encouraging routines at home—like regular bedtimes, packing backpacks the night before, and arriving on time each morning.
We know life happens, but planning vacations around the school calendar and scheduling appointments outside of class time when possible helps students stay on track. Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority—together we’re setting up every SR3 student for success!
MAP Scores are In
Last spring, your student participated in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessment or the End of Course (EOC) exams. These assessments provide information regarding your child's strengths and areas for improvement and growth. Assessments are given annually in Communication Arts (grades 3–8), Mathematics (grades 3–8), and Science (grades 5 and 8). End-of-course exams include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, English I, English II, Government, American History, Biology, and Personal Finance. These assessments allow students to show their knowledge of grade level/content material in various ways: multiple choice, constructed response, performance events, and technology-enhanced questions (drag and drop, click on a specific portion of the text, etc.)
Your student’s Individualized Student Report (ISR) is a personalized document that includes an Achievement Level, which is described as: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, or Advanced. The report is tailored to your child's performance and includes a brief description of skills at that performance level, ensuring that your child's unique needs are being addressed.
This year, your student’s ISR will be available at parent-teacher conferences in the fall. If you are interested in obtaining the report before conferences, please contact the school secretary so they can have it ready for you to pick up during school hours.
Free Lunch?
We encourage all families to fill out an application for free or reduced meal benefits as soon as possible. You can find a copy of this application on our website or contact your school secretary. The process is simple, but our secretaries are happy to answer any questions you may have.
