Swift - SlaybaughComplexWeek of May 28, 2023

Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Next week will be having the “grand finale” of our school’s Boosterthon, which is the Fun Run. The Boosterthon staff will be doing the kick-off and then the students will be participating in a 35 minute run. We would like to invite families to spectate this event and show your support for your children. This event will be occurring on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 2:00pm for second and third grade students, and 9:45 for kindergarten and first grade students. You will park in front of the Slaybaugh Elementary building in the bus lot. There will be signage to point you in the direction of the field where the event will take place. Since we will not be vetting those who attend, all guests must remain outside for the duration of the event. All cars must be out of the bus lot no later than 3:00pm, as our buses will need to start parking there.

The kindergarten and first grade fun grade fun day (field day) will occur on Thursday, June 15th, and second and third grade fun day will be occurring on Friday, June 16th, and this event will NOT be open to spectators. The only parents/guardians who will be attending field day are those who signed up to volunteer to run the stations for the students. Those spots have all been filled at this point. For both the 9th and the 16th, please send your child in wearing comfortable athletic clothes and shoes and sunscreen. Also for the 16th, please send your child in with a beach towel to sit on, ideally with the tag labeled with their last name.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and we look forward to seeing many of you on the 9th.

Sincerely,

Rachel Casumpang

Principal

Up, Up, and Away!

Ms. Nardone's technology classes started their Aerospace units this week. Up first are helicopters! The 2nd and 3rd grades learned about the science of flight, followed by engineering their own helicopters. Pictured are students from Mr. Nale's class who are loving their STEM lessons.

Feeling Worldly in Second Grade

Mrs. Huba’s class had fun working on maps of the world. Some students shared where they were born, have traveled, plan to travel to, and are planning to try to get donations for Boosterthon.

Animal Creations

To finish up their nonfiction unit, each student in Mrs. Nale's first grade class researched an animal, wrote down information, then created their animal with a paper plate and shared what they had learned about their animal. They had so much fun and did a great job!

First Class to Turn in all of their Books!

Mrs. Sheeran's and Mrs. Burnett's class was the first class to return all their library books so they were the first class to choose a prize! Great job! All classes that return all their books at Swift will receive a prize.

Empathy Project

Mrs. Bernardino and Mrs. Ungerer's class completed another Empathy project! We learned about animal shelters and all the work it takes to keep animals safe, healthy and loved while they wait for their fur-ever homes. The class made "no sew" blankets for cats a local EHT cat shelter: LICK Life Improvement. We can't wait until the cats receive our gifts!

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

Our Local Environment

Ms. McGowan and Ms. Beatty/Ms. Kelly's third-grade classes took a trip to the Haneman Environmental Park in Egg Harbor Township and the Wastewater Treatment Plant/Wind Farm in Atlantic City. What a fun way to learn how our county's waste is reduced, reused, and recycled!

Inside Out

Over the past 2 weeks students participated in "Inside Out" lessons on emotions with our School Health Specialist, Miss Kelly. Our 1st-3rd grade students were challenged to write a message of courage or hope on a hand cut out and post it around the bulletin board to bring joy to their friends!
