Welcome Back!

Welcome back, Scarlets!

We are so excited to officially kick off the school year and welcome our students back. We want to thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the postponement of our Open House. We're happy to report that the issues have been resolved.

  • The air quality concerns in the auditorium have been addressed. The environmental checks conducted by IEA confirmed that no other areas of the building were found to have air quality concerns. Rest assured, the school is safe for occupancy.

  • The new parking lot construction is being completed today, providing a safe and accessible space for all.

We can't wait to see everyone for a fantastic school year!

Coming and Going

Please follow the new traffic and parking plan for our school to ensure safety and efficiency.

  • Bus and ADA Access: Only buses and vehicles with ADA parking permits are allowed to use the back lot (the lot between West and the YMCA).

  • Student Drop-off/Pick-up: Parents need to use the designated drop-off/pick-up lane depicted on the map above.

  • Student Parking: Students with a valid parking pass must use the student lot, not in the staff lot.

  • Staff and Visitor Parking: Staff will park in the staff lot, where there will also be designated visitor parking spots.

  • Building Entry: Students who are bussed will enter through door #19. All other students, staff, and visitors will use door #24.

Open House...Take 2

While we would really like to kick the year off with an Open House, we will not be able to have our traditional Open House. Wednesday night, August 27th at 5:30, we will be having our 9th grade/New Student meeting in the auditorium, but no other open house activities. All are welcome to attend the meeting.

Monday is Link Crew Orientation Day

We are excited to welcome the Class of 2029 for Link Crew Orientation on Monday, August 25. Our Link Crew leaders have been busy with completing their training and planning an exciting first day of school activities for freshmen. Students do not need to bring anything with them on orientation day, so leave your backpack, chromebook, and other materials at home. Freshmen will have access to their regularly scheduled transportation, whether that mode of transportation is walking, biking, riding the school bus, or getting dropped off. When students arrive we will have staff greeting our freshmen and guide them to the cafeteria for check in and breakfast. At 8:45 am we will begin our activities for the day. Following the morning Link Crew activities students will eat lunch, attend a class meeting, and follow their schedule with shortened class periods. Our day will conclude at our regularly scheduled time of 3:35 pm.

Bus Passes

If you were unable to pick up your bus pass during Kick-Off Days, you will be able to ride the bus without a pass on Monday Aug 25th and Tuesday Aug 26th. On Wednesday, you will need to have your bus pass. Passes can be picked up in the office.

What Time Can I Get Into the Building?

Doors #19 and #24 open at 8:15am. Please note, students will not be able to enter the building prior to 8:15 as we do not have supervision before 8:15. Also, students need to leave the building by 3:45pm unless they are here with a staff member.

During the school day, anyone coming to West will need to enter door #24 and check in at the desk. Thank you for your cooperation!

Student Schedules

Please be sure to refresh your schedule in Infinite Campus on Tuesday morning. Our counselors continue to work on balancing classes, and while your courses will not change, the order may change.

Wondering when you have lunch? You will find out on Tuesday! Please report to your 4th hour class, right after 3rd hour. Your 4th hour teacher will tell you which lunch you will have.

What If I Missed Kick-Off Days?

9th graders who missed Kick-Off Days will be able to pick up their chromebooks on their orientation day. All other students can pick up their chromebooks on Tuesday, beginning at 8:00am.

School pictures will take place on September 16th.

Pick up Student IDs and Bus Passes in the office.

Senior Parking Permits

Seniors can purchase a parking pass through 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 28. Please access Affinity and Online Registration Directions - Parking if assistance is needed. Once you have paid through Affinity, you can pick up your pass in the office.

Student parking is in the lot closest to the tennis courts. The new lot is for visitor and staff parking. Please be reminded, there is no parking (other than ADA) in the back lot.

Junior Parking Lottery

Juniors interested in purchasing a parking permit should complete the Junior Parking Permit Lottery form by 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 28. The lottery for junior parking permits will take place on Friday, August 29.

Subs on the Sidewalk - Friday

High school is a much richer experience when you are involved with activities. Friday will be a great opportunity to sign up for something you are interested in. We will have an hour lunch, where all of our activities will have a table outside. Students can find out information about the activities and student clubs we have and sign up. There is something for everyone!

Another way to get involved is by attending different events. Follow our student section on instagram at mwhsstudentsection.

BARR Program

West is excited to implement the BARR program, which stands for Building Assets, Reducing Risks, with our freshmen. The BARR program is a strengths-based educational model designed to support students' academic, social, and emotional development that is based upon two core pillars: strong relationships and data. The BARR program has a strong track record of positive results, including improved grades, higher graduation rates, and a more positive school climate.

A key component of the BARR program is the I-Time Curriculum. I-Time is a weekly, 15-30-minute lesson facilitated by a core subject teacher. The primary goal of I-Time is to foster stronger relationships, both between students and their teachers, and among students themselves. The activities are designed to help students build community and a sense of belonging, further develop communication, goal-setting, and decision making skills, and engage in self-discovery and identify their own strengths.
