Akron Career Fair
Tuesday, we hosted our 4th Annual Akron Rams College & Career Fair, and it was nothing short of amazing! Over 35 college and career representatives joined us to share their knowledge, have meaningful conversations, and inspire our Akron Rams to dream big.
On the other side of the gym, we also held our first-ever Job Interview Simulation, and it was a huge success! A big thank-you to CHS for their guidance and partnership in making this possible. We ran 32 students through mock interviews, supported by 12 fantastic interviewers who offered valuable feedback and real-world insight. Our students walked away energized, confident, and eager to put what they learned into action.
We truly live in an amazing community! Watching so many people come together to invest in our students, sharing their time, passion, and expertise, is something special. Even more fun is seeing more and more Akron alumni come back and join this event each year. My teacher heart is full.
A huge thank-you to all of the incredible representatives (and the multiple people some of them sent!) who made today possible:
Town of Akron, Premier Farm Credit, CSU, 21st Century Equipment, CHS, Bank of Colorado, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Happy Tails, Air Force, Army, Chadron State College, Colby Community College, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Fort Hays, Northwest Tech, Colorado Mesa University, Morgan Community College, Northeastern Junior College, Yuma Hospital, University of Northern Colorado, Western Nebraska Community College, Metro State University Denver, Hall & Axsom Event Planning, Key Team Real Estate, YW Electric Association, Coast Guard, Akron CDL Program, and Buildings by Design.
A special shoutout to our amazing interviewers who volunteered their time and expertise for the Job Interview Simulation: Fred Raish, Corby Kneedler, Brittani Kusel, Kendra Anderson, Brad Hageman, Braden Piel, Larissa Curtis, Brian Christensen, Woody Woods, Kevin Hall, Kelli McCaffrey, and Brock Houston.
And thank you to YW Electric Association once again for helping provide tables and extra support throughout the day!
Finally, a huge thanks to everyone working behind the scenes, Kiara Herder, Akron Administration and Office Staff, the FBLA Leadership Team, and the Building Trades Program. There are so many others I could list, as this was truly a complete team effort from start to finish.
Building Trades
The Building Trades class, guided by Mr. Johnson, has been constructing a 12x20 shed on the school grounds. The project involves starting from the foundation, where students have gained skills in concrete work, erecting walls and trusses, and installing doors and roofing. Upon completion, the shed will feature electrical wiring and a garage door.
Stay tuned for the completed project.

October Reading Challenge
We’re thrilled to announce that the first round of winners for our Akron Elementary October Reading Challenge have been awarded—congratulations to those early readers!
But it’s not too late to join the fun! Students who return their completed Reading Bingo sheet by October 30 can still earn a reward. To stay on track, we recommend completing 1–2 boxes per day.
Prizes:
- A Bingo (one full row, column, or diagonal) earns a fun prize!
- A Blackout (every box completed) earns a Reading Medal to celebrate your achievement!
Keep reading, keep exploring, and let’s finish October strong!
Mighty Ram Mentors
This week, our preschoolers and their mentors took on an exciting hands-on project- helping Bo Peep create pens for her missing sheep! With guidance from their mentors, the children used simple materials like popsicle sticks, tape, straws, and marshmallows to build their own miniature sheep enclosures.
The preschoolers brainstormed ideas, experimented with materials, and used problem-solving skills to bring their designs to life. Popsicle sticks formed sturdy walls, marshmallows served as soft connectors, and straws and tape helped reinforce the structures. Throughout the process, the room buzzed with creativity, laughter, and teamwork. Some children even added imaginative touches like gates or little paths for their sheep to "walk" through.
3rd-5th Grade Visit Pope Farms
On Thursday, our 3rd thru 5th grade students embarked on an exciting outing to Pope Farms' pumpkin patch. The students enjoyed pumpkin picking, bouncing on the massive pumpkin pillow, zip lining, and a favorite every year- the big slide.
1st Grade Reads to Younger Classes
Some of Mrs. Hottinger’s 1st grade class visited Kindergarten and Preschool with their writing papers that they’ve been working so hard on! It was fun to listen to what they wrote and see what illustrations they added to their writing.
Free dental screenings will take place on November 11th and 12th.
Please complete the form sent home with your student or use the QR code to register your child.
Construction I Class
The Construction I class undertook a comprehensive project in the agricultural shop by constructing a wall. The students framed the wall, ensuring precise alignment and stability. They then installed electrical wiring, switches and outlets. Finally, they applied sheetrock, carefully securing it to the frame to create a smooth finish.
Football
In a hard-fought rematch, the Rams defeated the Dayspring Eagles 14-8 for the second time this year.
On Monday, the JV Rams showcased their skills at home against Dayspring, dominating the game with a commanding 30-6 lead to secure their victory.
This Friday night, the Rams are set to host SedgCo, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM.
Volleyball
Last Thursday, the Lady Rams traveled to Hi-Plains for a match. The JV team competed in three sets, while the Varsity team fought through five sets but couldn't secure the win.
On Tuesday night, the Rams faced Wray. The C and JV teams played competitively, and the Varsity team went to five sets but fell short.
The Rams will host SedgCo on Friday, with games starting at 4:00 PM. The C team will play first, followed by JV, and then Varsity. They will travel to Burlington on Saturday, with matches starting at 1:00 PM.
Cross Country
Good luck to our Akron cross country competitors. Addi, Kolton and Eli will run on Thursday afternoon for their chance to compete at state cross country.
MS Boys Basketball
The middle school boys kicked off their basketball season at home on Monday against the Brush Beetdiggers. The B and C squads lost but gained valuable experience, while the A team came away with a win. This group has a lot of potential — they are coachable and give great effort. Proud of our RAMS!
Next Tuesday the boys will travel to Wiggins to take part in the Wiggins Tournament.
