Time to Wrap Up Testing

BWMS Community,

Can you believe that next Friday is May? Crazy to think that we are inching closer to finishing up our school year.

Now we finish up state testing next week, then Service Day and SOAR Day before we send out 8th graders on their end of year trips. Time does fly. Hold on and enjoy every minute.

Next week we finish our OSTs. Please remind your student of the importance of coming to school on testing days with Chromebooks charged and a possible book to read after testing.

  • April 28 OST Math Part 1 and April 29 OST Math Part 2
  • April 30 OST 8th Grade Science only Part 1&2

We know the pace of life speeds in May, buckle up BWMS.

Enjoy the weekend and check out the BWMS Eagles Night this Friday!

Washington DC Update for 8th Grade Students

Hello Big Walnut Families,

Please review the medication information for our 8th grade Washington DC trip.

Students who need to take any medication during the trip—including over-the-counter medications (such as Tylenol, Zyrtec, or vitamins) and prescription medications—must have a completed medication authorization form on file.

  • Forms are due by May 1st. Students were provided with a copy of this form in March. Attached is a printable version and there will be extra copies in the BWMS office. Here is a printable version.

  • Medication forms will not be accepted after May 1st unless prior arrangements have been made with the school nurse.

Medication Drop-Off

  • Medications must be brought to the bag check on Sunday, May 17th, from 4:00–5:30 PM.

  • Place all medications in a clear, labeled Ziploc bag with your child’s name.

  • Students must know the name of their assigned chaperone at check-in.

  • Students are not permitted to self-carry medications unless prior arrangements are made with the school nurse.

Medication Requirements

  • All medications will be reviewed by the nurses at bag check to ensure the proper paperwork was completed.

  • Medications must be in their original containers or prescription bottles.

  • Please ensure medications are not expired. Expired medication will not be accepted.

  • Inhalers must include the original box with prescribing information or a pharmacy label attached to the inhaler.

Important Reminder

  • NO medications will be accepted at bag check without a completed medication form submitted by May 1st.

  • Students are not permitted to self-carry medication unless they have prior permission to carry emergency medication.

Additional Note

  • Please send only the amount of medication needed for the duration of the trip.

  • Medications will be returned to students at the conclusion of the trip, before exiting the bus.

If you have any questions, please contact the district nurse, Megan Truax @ megantruax@bwls.net

The best to you,

Jenny Ainsworth, Erin Barr, and Megan Truax
