Dear Fisler Families,

Happy Sunday! We are looking forward to welcoming our families to Parent-Teacher Conferences this week! Conferences are such a great opportunity to hear more about your child’s progress, celebrate their successes, and talk together about how we can continue supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.

I remember looking forward to conferences when my own children were younger. In fact, I still remember my youngest son’s second-grade conference when his teacher shared that he had been quite the talker in class. That was definitely not what I was expecting to hear, and I think I almost fell off my little chair! I left very thankful for her honesty and for the opportunity to work together to support him.

I share this because, as parents and educators, we are all here for the same reason: our children. I truly believe the best partnerships come from open and honest conversations. Conferences give us the chance to celebrate what is going well, talk through challenges, ask questions, and make sure we are working together to help every child be successful. I hope you leave your conference feeling informed, supported, and excited about your child’s continued growth!

A huge thank you to our amazing PTSA and parent volunteers for providing lunches for our teachers and staff during Conference Week. This is an especially busy week for our team, and having our staff so well cared for means more than you know. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity!

And after a full week of conferences, we get to end the week with some fun!

Family Movie Night is this Friday evening! Thank you to F²AST for organizing this special event and giving our Fisler families another opportunity to relax, spend time together, and enjoy a fun evening with friends and our school community. I hope to see many of you there!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support, partnership, and all you do to make Fisler such a special community. We have a great week ahead!

Warmly,

Caroline Llewellyn, Ed.D.

Principal

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

From September 15 to October 15, we join the nation in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month—a time to recognize and honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic communities. This is a special opportunity for our students to learn about the vibrant traditions, inspiring leaders, and enduring legacies that have shaped our world.

To bring this celebration to life, our teachers will be incorporating exciting read-alouds, hands-on activities, and meaningful discussions into their lessons, giving students a chance to explore Hispanic heritage in creative and engaging ways. Additionally, our school librarian has curated a fantastic collection of books that highlight Hispanic authors, stories, and experiences. These books will be available for students to explore throughout the month.

We encourage everyone to dive into the stories, cultures, and histories that make Hispanic Heritage Month so important. Let’s celebrate together!

Here are some great stories celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month to read aloud and enjoy with your child at home:

Whoa Fisler Families!

Movie Night & Community Fair — Friday, September 25

It’s finally here - movie night. For any new families … I have to say, this is actually a lot of fun. Bring blankets, maybe camping chairs for the adults. Food, raffles, live music, and local food vendors — our first big night together as a community this year. One thing that makes a real difference: pre-order your meals as soon as you can, and no later than Monday. Pre-orders are how we get the count right and make sure there's enough food for everyone. Don't wait! PRE-ORDER

Counseling Corner

Dear Fisler Families,

Parent-teacher conferences are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child’s experience at school. While grades and academic progress are important pieces of the conversation, there is so much more to your child’s school experience than a report card. Take time to ask about your child as a whole person meaning their friendships, confidence, effort, responsibility, communication. Ask how they treat others. Understanding how your child shows up in the classroom can give you valuable insight into their character, strengths and areas where they may need additional support.

When talking with your child’s teacher try to look beyond the questions, “What grade is my child getting?” and ask, “Who is my child becoming at school?” A student may earn excellent grades but struggle with organization, collaboration, kindness, or handling frustration. Another student may be working incredibly hard, showing resilience, helping classmates or making significant social-emotional growth that may not appear on a report card. These conversations between parents and teachers can help create a stronger partnership and ensure that we are supporting not only academic success, but also the development of responsible, confident, compassionate and well-rounded young people.

Questions Parents Can Ask

  • Academic Questions

What are my child’s academic strengths, and where could they use additional support?

Is my child consistently completing and turning in assignments?

How does my child participate in class and ask for help when they need it?

Are there any skills or habits my child should work on at home to support their learning?

What is one specific thing my child could focus on improving this quarter?

  • Behavior, Character & Social-Emotional Questions

How does my child treat and interact with classmates and other students?

Does my child participate positively in group work and demonstrate good teamwork?
How does my child respond when they are frustrated, corrected, or make a mistake?

Does my child demonstrate responsibility, respect, kindness and good decision-making at school?

Is there anything you have noticed about my child’s confidence, friendships, behavior, or overall well-being that you think I should know?

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Conley
