Message from the Principal

Hello Eagle Families!

It was so great to see so many of our virtual student families today to get your Eagle face masks. If you weren't able to pick up your FREE Eagle face mask today during our drive-thru service, you may stop by the front office next week anytime during school hours at your convenience to pick up Eagle masks. Thank you to our PTA for providing these awesome masks for all of our students and staff to show their Eagle spirit safely!

This week we welcomed some 8th graders back to in-person and have completed the phase-in process to start the year. Our on-campus students have been diligently following the social distancing protocols and respectfully following the mask requirements. Due to their efforts, along with our virtual students actively engaging from home, we are moving forward successfully as united Eagles!

Reminder, if you change your mind for your learning location, you may email your counselor at any time to change to virtual empowered learning. If you would like to change from Virtual to In-Person Learning, the current deadline is October 23rd to start at the beginning of the next grading period on November 2nd. No changes to in-person are currently being allowed during the middle of the grading period.

This month, we will also start having more activities on campus such as volleyball and football games. Be on the lookout next week as we share more details on event safety protocols requirements. For full return including extracurricular events to be successful, it will require a total effort from all staff, students and community on campus to follow the protocols necessary to keep our doors open and move the year forward.

Lastly, please do not forget the following upcoming dates:

  • October 12th & 13th: Student Holiday/Staff development
  • November 3rd: Student Holiday/Staff development (Please note: this date was moved from Nov. 2nd to allow for voting safely on campus.)

Thank you for your continued support of Canyon Ridge Middle School.

Go Eagles!

Mrs. Wendy Sturdevant

Eighth Grade PSAT - CANCELLED

In past years, 8th-grade students in Leander ISD were administered the PSAT 8/9 as part of the College Board’s SAT Suite of Assessments. This exam will not be given to 8th grade students this school year. This decision was made based on the need for proper spacing of students and the limited availability of space and proctors.

There will be no option to take the PSAT at home as this is not allowed by the College Board.

Current 8th-grade students will have an opportunity to take the PSAT 8/9 next year when in 9th-grade.

Please note: On the A/B calendar, we have October 29th as a PSAT/"C day" schedule. Even though we will not be doing PSAT, we will NOT be changing the A/B calendar and will instead utilize October 29th as a day for other campus activities to assist students as we approach the end of the second 6-weeks grading period. More detailed plans and information to come in October.

CRMS School Photo Day: October 29th

As we approach the Fall school picture day, we want to be certain that we have communicated our plans to photograph the students in attendance AND the students who have chosen virtual learning. As in the past, in-school students will be photographed with adjustments for physical distancing and protective wear on the part of the photographers. (Photo Texas school photos plan for 2020-21 including safety protocols.)

Arrangements are also being made to photograph your virtual students. Here is a Photo Texas Video of school photos plan outlining the process for outdoor photos. When photo dates are confirmed, a sign-up link and link for on-line prepayment for photos will be provided for these virtual families. Parents will bring students to an outdoor location at their scheduled time. Safety protocols will remain the same for outdoor and indoor photos.

Single Sign-On with LISD Google Account Enabled Enhancing Student Security

Starting this week, students are required to be logged in to their LISD Google (First.last##@K12.leanderisd.org) account to access their Zoom classroom meetings. The district has added this new feature to enhance the security of our virtual meetings. If you are logged through any other personal account and not using your LISD Google email, you will not have access to the Zoom meeting. Since most students currently only log in with their Google account, this should not be a significant change. The SSO feature will not change the classroom links your teacher has already established.

If you encounter any issues accessing a Zoom meeting due to this change, please send your teacher an email so they can problem-solve the issue with you.

Why are is this required? The authenticated user option through Zoom uses Google SSO to only allow students and teachers from approved LISD domains to enter a meeting. It will not allow a non-Leander ISD student into the meetings. It will also track the Google users in attendance, which should help eliminate security breaches, aka “Zoom Bombing.” This feature will help us create a safe and secure virtual learning environment for all our students.

Remember, it is your responsibility to protect your Google log in credentials. Do not share this information with anyone.

The course is appropriate for parents with any aged child and any situation: home, school or even work. The series is open to parents in our Leander ISD community. Launch to Learning Guides and FAQ

  • Teaching and Learning Guide

  • Special Programs Guide

We know that our community still has questions, so we’ve worked hard at cultivating an expansive, updated FAQ section of the Launch to Learning site. The latest additions will be highlighted green for a few days and then moved into a queue under the appropriate heading.
