We have a BIG week of fun at Farley! On Tuesday, we’ll celebrate our students with MEGA Blast, featuring inflatables, games, concessions, and plenty of fun throughout the day. Then on Friday, we’ll wrap up the week with our PBIS Fall Festival, celebrating positive behavior with games and activities. We would love to have parent volunteers join us for either event! We also welcome donations of outdoor or carnival-style games (cornhole, Connect 4, etc.) that we can use for PBIS Day. Thank you for helping us make these special days memorable for our Falcons!

Don't forget the Kindergarten Alphabet Parade at 9:00AM on Friday.

We are proud to announce that Farley Elementary has earned Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse recognition, joining roughly 1% of schools nationwide to receive this distinction! This achievement reflects our students’ strong academic performance and the exceptional work taking place throughout our school each day. A special thank you goes to our Blue Ribbon Committee, our parent and teacher focus groups, PTA, faculty and staff, and everyone who helped tell Farley’s story throughout the evaluation process. Above all, we celebrate our students and teachers—their hard work, high expectations, and commitment to learning are at the heart of this recognition. Farley will formally receive the Lighthouse Award at the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence National Conference in December. This is an accomplishment our entire Farley family can be proud of!

Each year, we use our spring ACAP results and beginning-of-year (BOY) data to develop our instructional priorities for the new school year. Farley is currently finalizing our HCS Success Plan, which guides much of our work, and our Alabama Continuous Improvement Plan (ACIP), which is closely aligned with the Success Plan and meets state and accreditation requirements.

We invite you to review both plans to learn more about Farley’s performance, goals, and priorities. We also value your input! Please send any feedback or recommendations to Dr. Thorson.

School Fund Raiser - MEGA BLAST

Last year, Math was a major instructional focus at Farley. With support from our fundraising efforts, we were able to provide after-school Math tutoring and additional support from a Math Interventionist. We are excited to share some of the progress our students made:

Across Grades 3–5, Math proficiency increased from 50.3% in 2025 to 54.4% in 2026.
The percentage of students reaching Level 4, the highest performance level, increased from 20.1% to 26.5%.
The percentage of students at Level 1 was reduced by nearly half—from 20% to 11%.
We also saw strong growth among students from one year to the next. Our Grade 3→4 cohort Level 1s decreased from 32% to 14%. Our Grade 4→5 cohort increased proficiency from 58% to 66%, with Level 4 growing from 32% to 44%.

This year, we will continue building on our Math progress while expanding our instructional focus to include Writing.

To help fund tutoring and intervention opportunities for our students, Farley students can participate in The Mega Blast fundraiser. Learn more here.

More information about The Mega Blast will come home this week. Thank you for helping us continue to provide additional learning opportunities for our Falcons!
