Superintendent Update

Dear families:

As I type this, the mercury is rising and I see blue skies above! Here’s hoping the warm weather continues for Spring Recess. Next week also happens to be National Assistant Principal’s Week, so I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to salute the five APs in our district: Mark Foster, Sonja Griffin and Casey Nelan at Irondequoit High School, and Joyce Akwaa and Alexa Hogestyn at Dake Junior High School. They do a fantastic job supporting our students and staff.

There are many positives to reflect on as we pause to take a final breather/recess, then return to school Tuesday, April 9th for the final stretch of the school year. From small gains to big ones, from our soon-to-be IHS graduates to our littlest learners – they all matter and should be celebrated. Finally, I wanted to remind you that there is no school tomorrow and no school on Monday, April 8th because of the Total Solar Eclipse. Helmer Nature Center is hosting “Irondequoit Eclipse Fest: Together in Totality” from 1-5 p.m. on April 8th. There will be fun activities for children like a bounce house, along with learning opportunities, and it’s all FREE. Learn more at this link.

Please make sure the eclipse glasses sent home with students this week are stored in a safe place until April 8. Thank you to our Helmer staff and personnel at each building who coordinated getting the glasses in the hands of 3,600 students!
