This Week's Scouting Report This Week's Scouting Report

Thursday, June 4, 2026 Thursday, June 4, 2026

Good evening, Glenwood families,

The school year continues to wind down here at Glenwood, but that does not mean we are slowing down!

This week, our students participated in the annual Book Swap and left with a few books that matched their interests. Thank you to Mr. Grisillo for making this opportunity possible.

On Tuesday, we welcomed our Glenwood alumni back to their roots for our annual Clap Out. As educators, it is always rewarding to watch former students blossom into young adults ready to take on the world ahead. There were plenty of smiles, hugs, and even a few tears as our staff said a final farewell to students they once taught in our classrooms. We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments tomorrow at Penncrest High School's graduation ceremony.

Today, we recognized our students during our two PRIDE assemblies. Collectively, Glenwood students earned more than 6,000 PAWS this year, resulting in a well-deserved water ice celebration on Monday. We also highlighted the accomplishments of many students and recognized those who earned the Golden Mane and Pride Leader awards from each classroom.

Tonight, our Select Chorus will perform the National Anthem at the Wilmington Blue Rocks game, and I will have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch. That is definitely one item I can cross off my bucket list!

We hope to see many Glenwood families there tonight as we celebrate our talented students and enjoy a great evening together as a school community.

We have just one more busy week before a well-deserved summer break for students, staff, and families. Please see all of the happenings and reminders below.

Best,

Josh Rehak, Principal

Congratulations Class of 2026!

Glenwood Scholarship

Each year, Glenwood staff offers a scholarship opportunity to former students. Seniors are asked to submit an essay explaining why Glenwood helped shape their path, and the money is raised by inviting staff to "Wear jeans on Friday" with a donation.

We had many deserving students and have been thrilled to hear about so many of their successes, future plans and recent experiences. This year we are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 Glenwood Elementary Scholarship are Victoria Dunoff and Nigel Steager!

Glenwood Awards

We held our last Glenwood Pride Assemblies for the school year today. We had a great year (with many changes) and our students really excelled. Today we recognized those students who have stood out this year! Congratulations to all recipients!!!

The Golden Mane Award is presented to one student from each class who goes above and beyond in showing positive behavior, effort, leadership, and school pride. These students demonstrate what it means to be an outstanding member of our school community each day.

The Pride Leader Award: Nominated by our Encore teachers, this award is given to one student in each grade level who consistently demonstrates our school goals. These students serve as positive role models through their leadership, attitude, and actions.

Makerspace in the Library

The students will test and explore their makerspace/STEM projects from the library on Thursday, June 11th during their Encore class times. Any projects still at home should be sent in by Monday, June 8th to prevent any teams from not having something use.

Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction

The Glenwood Elementary Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction is rolling right along! We’ve stacked up an amazing 615 FULL boxes of cereal so far! But wait… our dominoes aren’t done falling yet! We still need 358 more boxes to reach our BIG goal!

Help us keep the kindness tumbling by sending in cereal boxes next week. Every box helps feed local families and keeps our chain reaction going strong! Thank you for helping us crunch hunger one box at a time!

Transportation Survey

To ensure your child/children have transportation for the 26-27 school year, it is mandatory to fill out the following questionnaire and submit it by June 12, 2026. If your child is not utilizing bus services for the 26-27 school year, please let us know that as well.

5th Grade News

Our 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Penncrest High School. We are excited to celebrate our 5th graders as they prepare for this important transition.

Due to the large size of this year’s class, some procedures will look different from past years:

  • Students should report to Glenwood at the start of the regular school day.
  • Students should dress appropriately for this special occasion.
  • Buses will transport Glenwood students from GES to Penncrest High School.
  • Students should not report directly to Penncrest High School, as there are logistics and preparations that need to take place prior to the ceremony.
  • Parents and guests should report directly to Penncrest High School.
  • Doors will open at 10:00 a.m.
  • Because of venue capacity, each family may bring up to 6 guests.
  • Please know that it is a school day for PHS, so parking is limited. Please carpool if possible.
  • Please use the larger parking lot closest to the Van Leer Avenue entrance.
  • Enter through the Auditorium doors by the Lions statue

Following the ceremony, all students will be required to board the buses back to Glenwood. Students will not be permitted to be dismissed directly from Penncrest High School. Parents may meet students at Glenwood and officially sign them out from their classroom teacher.

To help streamline dismissal procedures, please complete the Early Dismissal Form - 5th Grade Recognition by Monday, June 8th to proactively collect information for students who will be leaving early that day.

Families will also have the opportunity to visit the 5th grade hallway, which will be decorated by our 5th Grade Committee in honor of our students and their accomplishments.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone together.

5th Grade Clap Out Opportunity

As a final goodbye to their Glenwood chapter, families are cordially invited to attend the 5th Grade Clap Out on Friday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. Visitors will sign in outside and gather along the main hallway as the classes parade through the building one last time.
