What's Happening In Waterville

We are loving this amazing weather and being able to get outside to recess each day! Unfortunately, we are seeing a lot of illness right now, so please keep your child home if they have a fever. Students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Preschool & Kinder Prep Families: Due to funding purposes, we must document Preschool and Kinder Prep hours, and with our snow days in January, we are short hours for just Preschool and Kinder Prep. We will need to add in some sessions to meet these required hours. Please see the following changes:

  • Friday, March 8th: Morning Preschool/ Kinder Prep (Morning session only from 8:05-11:15 am). We will not need to make up the afternoon session.
  • Monday, May 13th: Morning and Afternoon Preschool/ Kinder Prep will be in session at their regularly scheduled times.
  • Wednesday, May 15th: Morning and Afternoon Preschool/ Kinder Prep will be in session at their regularly scheduled times. This will now be the last day of Preschool/ Kinder Prep.
  • Our Preschool/ Kinder Prep end of year program will now be on Thursday, May 16th at 8:30 am.

We know that some children may not be able to attend these additional days because of scheduling issues, and we understand that.

Early Childhood Screening: Do you have a child between the ages of 3 to 5 years that has difficulty walking, talking, seeing, hearing or learning? If so, schedule an appointment for the Early Childhood Screenings on Friday, March 1st from 8:30 am- 11:30 am at Waterville Elementary! Contact the Marshall County Special Services Cooperative office at 785-562-5308, option 2. See the flier below for more details.

It's all blue skies in Blue Rapids

It was a great week at Blue Rapids elementary! We are, like other schools, experiencing illness in the school at an increased rate. If your child has a fever, please keep them home till they are 24 hours fever free. Also if you take your child to the doctor, please get a note from the doctor and turn it in to the office as this helps with attendance records. We are two weeks from spring break, the students and teachers at Blue Rapids elementary are working hard and finishing strong. It will be here before we know it.

Here are some upcoming dates to remember:

  • March 5th-Elementary Spring Concert at 7:00 pm in the Blue Rapids Gym
  • March 8th-End of 3rd Nine Weeks; Early Dismissal at 12:30 pm
  • March 11th - 15th-Spring Break

As always, I want to thank you for the blessing that it is to work with your children. My door is always open if you have any questions or concerns.

Miss Bruna's students created both visual and sound codes to learn how scanners at grocery stores scan barcodes and translate the information into the computers. Now they will understand the lines on barcodes and how computers know what they are buying at the grocery store.

Congrats! 👏

Congratulations to Mrs. Meadows’ class for being crowned Kansas State Reading Champions. This resulted from reading the most minutes per team over four weeks during READBowl 2024. The World Championship of Reading is a global reading competition put on by Read With Malcolm, the Youth Literacy Initiative of NFL Super Bowl Champion. The seventh annual competition was held from January 8 (the day of the College Football National Championship Game) through this past Super Bowl Sunday. This year there were more than 280,000 students, from all 50 states and 14 countries competing in the competition. In the end, more than 180 million minutes were read during READBowl 2024. Awesome job 4th graders!

Value Honor Success

Each day in the elementary schools, we teach our students how to have purposeful interactions and goals. We believe that having a common purpose will promote the academic and social emotional well-being of each student. We teach students the VHS model.

To celebrate students accomplishing these things, we have created positive office referrals, with VHS tickets. Teachers and staff hand out VHS tickets when they see a student doing the right thing.
