Good afternoon, Colt Families,

What a week at Morning Creek! We started with a rainy Monday and are ending with a toasty Friday! It's been another busy week of learning and fun across campus.

This month, our Character Strong trait is Gratitude. We're encouraging our Colts to recognize and appreciate the people and things that make a difference in their lives. Be sure to check out the information below for ways to continue these conversations at home.

We have lots to look forward to over the next two weeks! Next week, we'll kick things off with Monday Meet Up, and I'm looking forward to seeing our families on the blacktop Monday morning. We also hope you'll join us for our Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 23!

The following week, we'll keep the fun going with our annual Costume Parade on Thursday, October 29, followed by Orange and Black Day on Friday, October 30 to head into Halloween weekend with some school spirit! You'll find more information about all of these events below.

Have a wonderful weekend, Colts!

In partnership,

Principal Sullens

Character Strong: Gratitude Character Strong: Gratitude

This month, our Colts are learning about Gratitude! Through Character Strong, students are exploring what it means to appreciate the people and things in their lives. Practicing gratitude helps students develop a positive outlook and recognize the good around them.

We encourage you to continue these conversations at home! Check out the family newsletter below for simple activities and conversation starters to help your family practice gratitude together.

Costume Parade Details, October 29

This Loom provides guidance for the upcoming Morning Creek costume parade on Thursday, October 29 starting at 8 a.m. Parents are asked to reduce traffic by parking in the neighborhood and entering campus on foot during drop off. If dropping students in the parking lot, the lot will be coned off and closed to cars beginning at 7:45 to prepare for the parade. Families can view students from a caution-taped parent viewing area in the front of school, and students will exit from the side of campus to parade along the front sidewalk before returning to campus for an inside school parade that lasts about 30 minutes. The parking lot will reopen to cars after the parade.

Halloween Costume Guidelines Halloween Costume Guidelines

Halloween is always a fun day at Morning Creek, and we love seeing the creativity our students bring to their costumes. As families begin planning for Halloween, we want to share a few guidelines to help make the day fun, safe, and comfortable for everyone on campus.

When choosing a costume for school, please keep the following in mind:

  1. No Masks: Students’ faces need to remain visible while on campus so they can be easily recognized. Face paint and makeup are welcome alternatives.

  2. Keep Costumes School-Appropriate: Please avoid costumes that include excessive gore, horror, or anything that promotes violence. Weapons or weapon replicas—including swords, guns, or similar items—should remain at home.

  3. Be Culturally Respectful: Costumes should not represent cultures or identities in ways that could be viewed as stereotypical, disrespectful, or offensive. We want Halloween to be a celebration where every student feels comfortable and included.

  4. Leave Noisy Accessories at Home: Please avoid bells, whistles, sirens, electronic devices, or other accessories that may disrupt learning throughout the day.

  5. Remember, It’s Still a School Day: Costumes should follow our regular school dress expectations and allow students to comfortably participate in classroom activities, recess, and other parts of the school day.

  6. For Our Younger Colts: Please choose costumes that your child can manage independently, particularly when using the restroom. Simple costumes that students can easily take on and off make the day much easier for our youngest students.

Thank you for helping us keep Halloween fun and welcoming for all of our Colts. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to seeing the creativity our students bring to campus!

Warmly,

Mrs. Sullens
Principal, Morning Creek Elementary School

We’re looking forward to welcoming families to campus for our Fall Family Picnic! After your student’s lunch period, students will return to class for the remainder of the school day. To help minimize disruptions to learning, we ask that families not check students out early following the picnic.

If your child does need to leave early for an appointment or other reason, please plan to follow our regular checkout procedure through the front office. With many families on campus that day, the checkout process may take additional time.

Thank you for helping us enjoy this special time together while keeping the rest of our school day focused on learning.

TB Test Clarification

New this year, all volunteers—both new and returning—must have the new TB Risk Assessment form completed and signed by a healthcare provider. Unfortunately, TB forms or test results submitted in previous years cannot be accepted in place of the new form.

If you have had a TB test within the last four years, you may bring documentation of that test along with the new TB Risk Assessment form to your healthcare provider for review and signature.

The required TB Risk Assessment form can be found using the button below.

Thank you for taking care of this important step so we can continue welcoming our wonderful volunteers to campus!

TB Risk Assessment

Mandated Reporter Training Clarification

As part of the volunteer application process, all parent volunteers must complete all three required trainings in the JPA Library.

After completing the trainings, please upload the required completion certificate to your volunteer application. Screenshots of the training will not be accepted in place of the certificate.

Completing all three trainings and uploading the correct certificate will help us process your volunteer application as quickly as possible.
