Principal's Message
Movie Night is finally here! "Lilo and Stitch" will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The food trucks are set to begin selling their offerings at 5:30 p.m. Which food trucks? "The Donut King", "Dawggoneit" hotdogs and "Bhagvan's Dairy Cream" ice cream truck have indicated they will attend our event. Fingers are always crossed for lovely fall weather for this amazing event! You may want to consider dressing in layers for whatever the weather may bring. And finally don't forget those camping chairs, blankets, etc. Please remember that as this is a family event, we ask all parents and guardians to supervise their children. Thank you in advance!
Families of students in grades 1, 2, and 3, please know that we will begin some Government of Alberta benchmarking with our students this week and throughout the remainder of September. The benchmarking tools focus on language acquisition (letter, sound, word recognition, and various other literacy skills) and foundational math knowledge (addition, subtraction, etc.). Please know that the results of these benchmarking tools do not contribute to your student's report card marks. The results help teachers to see how they can better support literacy and numeracy in their classrooms. If ever you have any questions, never hesitate to reach out to me! All parents, please know that while these formalized benchmarking tools are only for grades 1 to 3, all of our classroom teachers are busy getting to know their students as learners and in literacy and numeracy skills. Please know that screening information does not translate into report card marks, the information helps teachers to know how best to program for all of their students.
Have a great week everyone and I can't wait to see everyone Friday evening!

Battle of the Books
We have started another season of Battle of the Books for grades 4 - 6. Students who have chosen to participate need to read the six chosen books before the battle that will take place some time near the end of February. We will be battling against Ardrossan Elementary in March again. We meet, if they choose, Wednesdays at lunch recess to read, discus the books and practice questions.
The students are welcome to read the books in another format or listen to the audiobooks although we do not have those available in our library for them, only the paper copies are in our library. These are the books that each grade level reads.
Grade 4: Pie by Sarah Weeks; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl; Confessions of an Imaginary Friend by Michelle Cuevas; Dorko the Magnificent by Andrea Beaty; The Wild Robot by Peter Brown; and Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman.
Grade 5: Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein; Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage; Matilda by Roald Dahl; Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley; F.R.A.M.E.D.! by James Ponti; and The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm.
Grade 6: The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier; When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead; The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester; Firegirl by Tony Abbott; The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley; and Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact Jennifer.Milanovic@eips.ca.
Read-In Week
Read-In Week takes place between October 6-10. This year’s theme is Books and Bytes, chosen to highlight the many different ways people read books: traditional paper books, e-books and audiobooks. We are looking for volunteer readers to come and read to our students. You can choose to read anything you want, age appropriate, of course. Sometimes the older students like to have a chapter or part of a chapter read to them from a longer book but they do still enjoy a good picture book, too! You can choose your own books or ask me to find something from our library. French or English readers are both welcome as well as for any program in the school. We take volunteers who will read to one class or all the classes and anything in between. If you are interested in volunteering some time that week, please contact Jennifer.Milanovic@eips.ca so I can schedule you a time!
Forest of Reading for Adults
Remember! The best way to have your children read is to have them see you read! Students who have parents that read visibly are more likely to choose reading themselves as they see it as a valuable use of time.
The time has come to vote in the adult portion of the Forest of Reading. If you had a chance to read any of the titles from this year’s nominees, send me an email with your choice to Jennifer.Milanovic@eips.ca. Emails must be received by September 28 in order for me to submit them on time. https://forestofreading.com/evergreen-2025-nominees/
New lists will be announced for next year, not just the adult books but the ones for children as well, in October. Our school plans to run this program for this upcoming year again.

Division Code of Conduct
EIPS has three administrative procedures (APs) that address the Division’s code of conduct:
· AP 311: Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning Environments for Students
· AP 350: Student Code of Conduct
· AP 351: Student Conduct on School Buses
The Division, and École Parc Élémentaire, are committed to ensuring all members of the school community are provided with welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments that respect diversity and foster a sense of belonging. EIPS encourages all students, staff and families to review the procedures to understand and practice the conduct expected throughout the Division.
Video surveillance at schools and on buses
Did you know each EIPS bus is equipped with video surveillance, and many school sites have video monitoring equipment?
Video surveillance and equipment help:
· ensure the safety of all students, staff, drivers and property; and
· discourage destructive acts.
As needed, EIPS school administration and Student Transportation staff review video recordings, in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. The recordings assist schools and the Division with monitoring student and driver conduct and may be used as evidence in a disciplinary matter.
For more information about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, contact the EIPS FOIP Co-ordinator at 780-464-3477.
