Husky Howler
Hopper Middle School

October 2026 (Edition 2 of 2)
A message from the principal...
Dear Hopper Families,
Welcome back, Hopper families! I hope our Huskies enjoyed a relaxing Fall Break and had the opportunity to spend quality time with their family and friends. We are back in action today resetting our classroom and hallway expectations to ensure our students are prepared for success throughout the remainder of the school year. As we settle back into our routines this week, please remember that being at school every day matters! With several breaks coming up this semester, we encourage families to schedule appointments on days when school is not in session whenever possible. Lastly, there is an important election coming up, and your voice matters! There are items on the ballot that impact our campus and district, so take time to get informed, understand the issues, and make your voice heard by voting. Together, we can continue making great things happen for our Hopper Huskies!
Sincerely,
Dr. Felicia Hayes, Principal
PACK on the Podium - Celebrating our Success!
Our MOONSHOT is for Hopper Middle School to be #1 in our cluster academically, socially, and academically. Here are some ways that we are paving the way to be at the top!
Our 8th graders are preparing for high school...
Our 8th graders are beginning to think about and draft their 4-year plans for high school. There are so many "Hoppertunities" offered at Cy-Springs! Our PE and Athletics students were able to gain physical fitness and learn more about all of the learning paths they can take next year.
Academic Success on Tests...
This marking period we took 63 tests in our core content classes! Of those 63 tests, our Huskies performed:
- 1st in the cluster 20 times!
- 2nd in the cluster 8 times!
- 3rd in the cluster 10 times!
* Our cluster middle schools are: Campbell, Dean, Kahla, Thornton, Truitt, and Watkins*
Success in Cross Country...
Our athletes competed at the district meet at Cy-Woods bringing home 3rd place overall all. The competition was fierce out of the 20 middle schools and we could not be more proud of all of our Huskies!
CFISD's Coach of the Month... Coach Raftie
Our very own Coach Raftie was chosen as CFISD's Middle School Coach of the Month!
Musical Fall Concerts...
Our PACK's Red Ribbon Week - October 26th - October 30th
Join us as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week and make the positive choice of staying drug free!
Instructional time is important. Being to class on time matters!
At Hopper Middle School, we believe being on time is an important part of student responsibility and academic success. Our Tardy Matrix is designed to hold students accountable for arriving to class on time while providing clear and consistent consequences when tardies become excessive.
Tardies will be tracked in three-week intervals. At the end of each three-week period, tardy counts will reset, giving every student a fresh start and an opportunity to make better choices moving forward.
Our goal is not simply to assign consequences, but to help students develop responsibility, time-management skills, and positive habits that will contribute to their success in school and beyond. We appreciate our parents and guardians partnering with us in reinforcing the importance of being on time and ready to learn! ❤️🐾
Chromebooks are needed everyday at Hopper!
We kindly ask that you partner with us in making sure that your child's computer is fully charged and in their backpack each day. Students use laptops each day to extend their learning, to take tests, complete labs and assignments, and as a calculator aid in 8th grade math, etc. If your child's laptop is not working, please contact Ms. Karen Nixon, our Academic Achievement Specialist by emailing her at karen.nixon@cfisd.net or by calling 281-463-5353. She can work with your child in putting in a DASH ticket for our computer technician to look at.
Chromebook Chargers
Many of our classrooms do not have extra chargers to lend to students whose computer batteries are not fully charged. If you would like to purchase an additional charger (one for home and one for your child's backpack to use in case of emergencies), you may email Ms. Karen Nixon at karen.nixon@cfisd.net and she get it added to your child's school cash account to purchase. The district does charge $30 for replacement and additional chargers. Parents have also let us know that there are sometimes sells on Amazon on these chargers too, so if you prefer to look into something like that, we have put the charger's description in the picture to the left. Third party chargers do not have insurance on them, so if they break or stop working, we cannot help in anyway, so please note that before purchasing from a third party vendor.
Next FRI-YAY Event - October 30th
At Hopper Middle School, we recognize and reward our students for demonstrating our PACK behaviors—being Prepared, Accountable, Cooperative, and Kind. Instead of using paper currency like Husky Bucks, we use a digital “bank account” through PBIS Rewards. With just the click of a button, our staff can easily award students points for positive behaviors and choices. Students can then use their points to “purchase” rewards and experiences, such as our upcoming Fri-Yay Choose Your Own Fun event! This system makes recognizing positive behavior quick, easy, and meaningful while giving our students something exciting to work toward.
This month, we are focusing on being prepared and accountable and getting to class on time. Students will earn PBIS reward points from their teachers for being on time, wearing their badge, and making positive choices. .

Texas Law Prohibiting Personal Communication Devices in School
A Texas law, House Bill 1481, prohibits students from using personal communication devices (i.e. cell phones, tablets, head phones, and smartwatches) on school property during school hours. If students should bring these items to school they must be stored in their backpack (not in their pocket) or given to an administrator to store it "away for the day."
Food and Drinks
At Hopper Middle School all students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Students may still bring their own lunch or snacks to eat in the cafeteria during these designated times as well. However, no food or drinks (exception of water) may be consumed in the classrooms or hallways.
If your child is bringing a water bottle, it must be plastic and have a leak-proof screw on top. Stanleys and Owalas are not permitted on campus.
Dressing for Success
Take a look at the guidelines below to ensure that your child is dressed for success every school day.
Successful Grades = Successful Attendance
Every Day Counts!
Regular attendance is essential to your child’s academic success. Each day at school provides important instruction, opportunities to practice new skills, and meaningful connections with teachers and classmates. Texas requires students to attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade. Please help your child start the year strong by arriving on time and attending school every day possible. When students are present, they are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed!
