Ellie Robinson WIAA Scholar Athlete Award winner

ROBINSON NAMED WIAA SCHOLAR ATHLETE

#PointerNation is very proud to share that our own Ellen Robinson is one of only 16 girls in the entire state to earn the prestigious Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Scholar Athlete Award!

Ellie will be honored May 4 in Stevens Point.

She is only the fifth Pointer ever to be recognized, joining Ella Chambers in 2022, Isaac Lindsey in 2020, Sydney Staver in 2017, and Ryan McGuire in 2010.

She writes in her essay, “My experiences in cross country, track, and basketball have shaped me into a more responsible, determined team player and student. They have taught me the importance of perseverance, time management, and the value of working toward a goal—the discipline and structure of athletics carried over to my academics.”

Fun fact -- Ellie's dad, and our Agriculture Teacher & FFA Advisor, Mr. Mike Robinson was a WIAA Scholar Athlete himself in 1992 at Mauston.

FINANCIAL LITERACY EVENT

The Junior Class attended Southwest Wisconsin Financial Literacy (SWIFLE) at Southwest Tech in Fennimore! SWIFLE is a financial literacy simulation where students engage with area businesses to gain insight and understanding of the pressures and decisions associated with living costs and monthly spending.

Each student was assigned a specific career, wage, lifestyle, family situation, etc. They spent the morning buying homes, cars, insurance, clothing, and vacations; paying fines; dealing with health and dental care; repairing broken water pipes and more. They even wrote checks and used debit and credit cards to pay area businesses (volunteers) for services.

SWIFLE truly gave them an accurate taste of reality as they prepare for their futures!

Thank you to all involved, including: Apple River State Bank, Astec Industries, Benton State Bank, Brechler Insurance, CESA 3, City of Prairie du Chien, Community Bank of Galena, Community First Bank, Cummins Emission Solutions, Dodgeville School District, Dupaco, Farmers Savings Bank, Fennimore Chamber of Commerce, First National Bank of Darlington, Heartland Credit Union, Highland School District, Marine Credit Union, Mound City Bank, Peoples Financial, Royal Bank, Rural Insurance, Southwest Health, Southwest WI Technical College, Stackstone Wealth, The Friendly Place, Town and Country Insurance, Tri-com Cellular, True Action Realty, USDA Rural Development, UW-Platteville, and many area retirees!

CAREERS CLASS CONSTRUCTION FIELD TRIP

Our 8th Grade Careers Class received an exciting, hands-on look at the construction world thanks to Keaton Carey at Carey Construction!

Students toured a home currently under construction and learned all about the building process, from the foundation to the finishing touches. They got to see first hand how many different professionals it takes to bring a house to life: from framers and electricians to plumbers and more!

Huge thanks to Carey Construction for opening their site and sharing their knowledge. It’s experiences like this that help our students connect the classroom to the real world!
