Puberty I:
Understanding Changes
This SEL infused class is taught through storytelling and age-appropriate scenarios and is designed to help students understand puberty. It introduces the physiological changes that occur during adolescence, including a study of reproductive anatomy.
In this first program in the Sex Education continuum, educators address secondary physical changes that occur across genders such as breast development, increased production of sweat and oil, acne, voice changes and the growth of body hair, as well as anatomy-specific changes such as the menstrual cycle and nocturnal emission and spontaneous erection. The Puberty I class utilizes a blended learning format, that includes on-line pre and post activities, providing students with multiple opportunities to learn and understand the program content.
This class may be taught in gender specific groupings or a mixed gender setting. Please note that mixed gender classes will need an additional 30 minutes, 120 minutes in total.
