Calendar/Number Sense Routines
"Use a calendar math routine to explore patterns, build number sense, and provide
a cumulative review of spiraling of mathematics concepts and skills. This is an
opportunity for children to develop mathematical vocabulary and communication
skills. Pick the elements of calendar that you feel will be most beneficial for your
students. Many teachers choose to focus on patterns, developing a concept of
counting/place value by keeping track of the number of days of school on a
hundreds chart and counting tape (number path) as well as with groupable
manipulatives (linking chains, paper clips, or ten frames, etc.), and developing
general calendar language." HCPS Mathematics
