WLES Weekly UPDATE

Next week is Thanksgiving. Each year, as the holiday approaches, I take time and reflect on what I am grateful for. The list always seems to get longer. This year, I find myself being especially grateful for my 25 years at WLES. The staff, students, and families have made school a second home for me. I am sure all of you have noticed how special the school community is and I hope you experience the same support, love, and joy as I do when you enter the building. Thank you for being a part of the community and making WLES a great place to be.

There will be no fith and sixth grade band on Tuesday, November 21. If your child is in band, pleae make sure they know how they are being dismissed at 2:35pm on Tuesday.

As we move into flu and cold season, help us keep the school community informed of possible illness exposures. If your child receives a diagnosis from a medical provider, please share it with office staff. When we have a diagnosis (screen shot from portal, paper or digital copy of doctor note, etc.), we can share exposure notices with the homeroom families. Thank you!

• December 1, 2, 3 - WLMS Drama Club presents Finding Nemo (see flyer below)
• December 6 - PTO meeting in the WLES library *FREE childcare
• December 21 - 1/2 day for students
• December 22 - 1/2 day for students, End of Semester, Winter Break begins after dismissal
• January 8 - Return from Winter Break
• January 15 - No School for Students: Staff Development

The WLES PTO funds assemblies, field trips, and many school activities throughout the year. They are preparing for the annual online auction that will run from November 23 to November 28. Flyers are included below with more details.

The Whitmore Lake Middle School Drama Club is perofrming Finding Nemo on December 1, 2, and 3 at the WLHS theater. I hope to see you there!

Ths Cold is Cool ski passport is available to all fourth and fifth grade students. If you are interested in getting your fourth or fifth grader on the slopes in Michigan, check out the information below.

All WLES volunteers need an approved background check. Volunteering includes helping with school activites like field trips, classroom celebrations, reading with students, Field Day, and more.

You may start the background check process by clicking THIS LINK and entering the requested information. Within 1-3 business days, you will receive an email from ALERT asking for more information (Check your spam!) After you submit the additional information, you will receive an approval or denial email within 5-7 business days. When approved, you are welcome to sign up for volunteer opportunities.

At WLES, all volunteers are required to sign in at the office and get a volunteer badge before proceeding to classrooms.
