Back to School Event for Grades 7 - 12
This Thursday, August 21, secondary students and their families will have two opportunities to pop into school to talk to staff, pay fees, get their schedule and ask questions. Day time available 1:00-3:00 (teachers will be working in classrooms if you need to speak with a teacher). Evening time available 4:30-6:00.
There will be an Elementary Open House in September. Final date and time will be communicated when confirmed.
Seven Period Schedule for Secondary Students
Secondary students will have a 7 period (as opposed to an 8 period block) schedule this year. This means that students will go to all of their classes every day. Classes are 50 minutes most days, and a shortened period on Tuesdays and other early release days. There are pros and cons to this schedule. One big pro is that students will meet more often with each teacher. One unfortunate reality is that students will no long have a mid-morning nutrition break so please make sure your student has a good breakfast every day.
Free Meals and Other Benefits
We ask that EVERY family fill out the school lunch forms every year - even if you don't think your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch. The information is very helpful in getting other funding as well - including scholarships for students. All information is strictly confidential. You can download the forms here.
Important Info for Student Athletes and Families
- A current sports physical is required for all high school athletes and 8th grade students who will be "playing up". Sports physicals are good for 2 years. If you do not know if your student needs a new sports physical, please contact Ronda Berg in the secondary office by email: rberg@lopezislandschool.org
- We have openings for sports physicals from 1 - 4 pm this Wednesday, August 20. You must call 360-298-8481 for a time slot.
- All sports and ASB fees MUST be paid at the start of the season. If a student has unpaid fees they will not be able to participate in games. Fees must be paid by the end of the first week of practice. Families can log into their Qmlativ account to view and pay their fees.
- If your family qualifies for Free & Reduced meals, your sports and ASB fees are waived. In order to get your fees waived you MUST submit these forms. No exceptions.
- There is a mandatory athletics meeting on Monday, August 25 at 5:30 pm in the gym.
- All athletics forms, available through ParentSquare, must be submitted before a student is eligible to practice.
Full School Year Calendar
Please note that all early release days are at 2 pm EXCEPT during school conference weeks. During student/teacher conferences, students will be dismissed at noon.
Lopez Island PTSA at Back to School Night
This is your chance to sign up as a LIPTSA Member, ask questions, share your ideas, and see upcoming opportunities to volunteer. This year we'll be working alongside administration and staff to organize a new Parent Coordinator volunteer program. This will streamline the volunteer experience and create opportunities for all to help our school out in whatever way might work for you!
LIPTSA is still collecting $$ for school supply purchases. If you have not submitted payment for school supplies for your student(s) please do this ASAP. Pay for your share of school supplies at the links below. Purchase one "share" per student.
Kindergarten Families: Join Us for Dinner on August 21
There will be a Kindergarten family dinner on Thursday, August 21 at 4:30 on the elementary playground. This is sponsored by the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, and it's a very casual and fun event for kindergarten families and students to share a meal together and play before the school year begins.
