Bear Challenge T Shirt Sale

We are thrilled to announce that preparations are officially underway for our annual Bear Challenge!

For those who may be new to our district, the Bear Challenge is our district version of the Special Olympics—a high-energy, heart-warming day of athletic competition specifically designed for our vulnerable students. It is a day where barriers are broken, goals are reached, and every single student has the chance to shine as a champion.

How You Can Help: The Bear Challenge T-Shirt Sale

We are inviting our entire community to help us make this year the best one yet by purchasing an official Bear Challenge T-shirt. Your support does three vital things:

  1. Support Our Students: Seeing a sea of community members wearing these shirts provides an incredible boost of confidence to our athletes.
  2. Raise Awareness: Wearing your shirt helps promote the spirit of the Bear Challenge throughout our district and beyond.
  3. Invest in the Future: Proceeds from this sale go directly toward funding the event, ensuring we can provide equipment and a first-class experience for our students for years to come.

Across our community, people are facing reductions or delays in SNAP benefits, income disruptions, and mounting financial stress, and they are turning to trusted organizations for answers. In response, United Way of Berks County has created a resource guide to offer some clarity and connection during these challenging times.

Attached are English and Spanish versions of the guide, also available at https://www.uwberks.org/guide-for-help/, which include:

  • Steps for accessing food, housing, and utility assistance
  • Help checking benefit status or resolving issues
  • Resources for mental health, childcare, and more
  • Local contacts including PA 211, Helping Harvest, Centro Hispano, CareerLink, and others

Title I Program Information

Boyertown, Colebrookdale, Earl and Washington are the identified Title I elementary schools in our district. Middle School West is also identified as a Title I school. These schools receive Title I funding based on the percentage of low-income eligible students.

Title I is a federally funded program purposed with ensuring all children have a fair and equal opportunity to learn and grow. Boyertown has transitioned to a Schoolwide Title I program. A Schoolwide program is designed to serve all students in a Title I building and improve all structures to help support student learning. Our Schoolwide plan was developed with the help of parents, community members, teachers, and administrators. Our plan is evaluated annually to determine the impact that these supports have on student achievement.

As a Schoolwide Title I building, the staff is reviewing all students' data to determine needs. Students are identified for intervention if in need of academic support, primarily in the area of reading. All students receiving additional support must qualify through our district assessments. Support is provided to the students individually or in small groups both in class and as a pullout program. Schools set a goal for academic progress that will be measured through mid-year and end-of-the-year assessments. The Reading Specialists, Intervention teachers, paraprofessionals, and classroom teachers partner together to support students.

Our district works diligently to use the Title I funds as required and to provide these additional services to enhance the educational program of our Title I students. If you have any questions about the Title I program, please reach out to your building's reading specialist or call the Title I office at (610) 369-7414.
