Ortega’s Oration

Dear Bryan High Community,

Spring is here, and we are ready for warmer weather and sunshine here in Bear Country! Before we move forward, I would be remiss if I didn’t recap our athletic and academic improvements and successes.

· Your Bryan High Wrestling Team had a top 15 finish, with 3 medalists at State Wrestling. It had been 23 years since the Bears had 3 medalists at the State Championship.

· Your Bryan High Basketball Team finished the season with an improved record of 14-10. The year prior their record was 5-17.

· Your Bryan High Girls Basketball Team had a significantly larger number of girls who chose to play and will help build our program in the years ahead.

· Your Bryan High Swim Team had a good season, with a larger number of swimmers who will continue to help us in the future.

In addition to our sports' successes, we have much to be proud of academically as well. The US Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, visited our school on February 8th. We were honored to be the only school in Nebraska to be chosen. Dr. Cardona was impressed by our college and career academies and the opportunities afforded to all our students in Bear Country!

Go Bears!

Academies in Action: Design and Construction Academy

Technology & Space Upgrade: In planning the Design and Construction Academy’s first year, Bryan High prioritized providing students a new Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab. Here, students work on their current project with 3D modeling and mapping software used by professional architects and designers.

Hands on Experience: Architecture 1-2 students have been working to recreate a building from the Omaha area or beyond. 2 stand-out projects include the Joslyn Art Museum and Do Space, displayed here. Students in the class are Dual Enrolled with Metropolitan Community College, so they are receiving high school and college credit for their work this year!

Beyond the classroom: In addition to earning college credit for their work, Architecture 1-2 students will soon be working on a home design project with local professionals from the ACE Mentoring Program. Community connections and experience turns dreams to realities—Go Bears!
