Picture of the Week Picture of the Week

On Wednesday, we held grade level meetings during teachers' common planning time. Our focus was on reviewing the progress of students towards their Cycle 3 WIN goal. We discussed the progress of each student and their progress toward their goal. We also discussed strategies to help students who were struggling and ways to motivate them to reach their goal. The meetings were beneficial for all involved, as we were able to review the progress of each student made and come up with new Cycle 4 goals.

Above Picture:

Our grade five teachers and interventionists (Reading & ESL) had the opportunity to take a museum walk of student work samples. It was a great time to collaborate and calibrate, as they were able to view the progress of the students. Everyone was excited to see the work that had been accomplished.

Grades 1-5 participated in meetings throughout the day.

Our short month still left time for lots of fun learning. February introduced biographies at all grade levels. We explored narrative nonfiction picture book biographies to learn the stories of people we may not have known before. We discussed what makes a biography a biography and how we can identify these books.

A NOTE FROM MS. CHRONEOS

Dear families,

Though the month of February was short, Lowell artists were busy learning and creating together. This newsletter is slightly belated due to the brevity of the month, and because students are still finishing up some fabulous February projects post February break that I wanted to share with you all.

Some of our fourth and fifth graders have been asking me about the District Art Show - specifically, will we have one this year? The answer is YES! It will be in April this year, and I will have more information for you all soon.

Warmly,

Ms. Chroneos

Art Monthly

Art Monthly

Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade: Kindergarten through second grade artists each studied artists who explore abstraction in February. Students looked at work by Howardena Pindell, Reginald Laurent, and Gee's Bend. Each of these artists have made important contributions to art and culture in the United States and helped us honor Black History Month.

As a reminder, our comprehensive coding curriculum for 3-12th graders is flexible, whether you launch new programs or incorporate our resources into programs you already have. Plus, all students who join the GWC community can then tap into lifelong college and career support, events with tech companies, and even the chance to win monetary prizes through our coding challenges. Here is our webinar if you’d like more information.

Would you still be able to share our Girls Who Code Clubs flyer with folks at J R Lowell Elementary School to encourage them to apply?
