Principal Points
Dear Grown-ups,
Happy New Year to each of you!I hope each of you have challenging goals and exciting resolutions made 2026!
Breakfast starts at 7:45! If you want your child to enjoy breakfast they need to be at school at or before 8am so they can finish eating in time to make it to class on time and not be marked tardy. Thank you for your help with this!
It is NOT safe to drop your children off before 7:45am. There is NO staff on duty until 7:45am so please do NOT drop off children before 7:45am.
PLEASE do not bring blankets to school. They get dragged in the dirt and left outside not to mention get in the way and become a distraction when they are learning. If your child is cold please have them wear thier coats, hats and/or mittens (boots when snowy). If you need assistance with these accommodation please reach out to our Community Schools Coordinator, Ms. Gaby.
Our Summit team has very high goals for our students academic learning and growth for this year and many years to come! We also want to decrease absenteeism, tardies and poor behavior. We have been putting many systems in place to achieve our goals and our team works tirelessly to help students be thier best and achieve these goals. We are a fantastic elementary and are working towards being the best!
We will be refreshing students on our behavior expectations when they return to help get us back in the swing of positive expectations for both academics and behaviors building-wide! It is important for students to have an environment that they can learn and grow so it is essential that we teach students positive behaviors and expectations for all areas in our shcool..
As grown-ups you can help your student meet these goals by supporting them in thier academics and working with the Summit team. Together we all want what is best for your student! There are many ways to support your student fo school.
Here's some suggestions to help you help your student to be successful!:
- Insist your student attends school everyday!
- Ensure your child is getting to school on time, everyday!
- Schedule appointments around the school day so they can stay and learn ALL day.
- READ with them every night!
- Practice math facts (everywhere and often)
- Establish firm bedtime routines (such as take a bath, brush, read and get to sleep)
- Remove distractors for your student from homework or sleeping routines (No electronics of any kind in bedroom-No TV, radio and especially tablets, laptops and phones)
- Insist they do their homework if they bring homework home.
- Insist they eat breakfast so they have a full belly and can learn.
- Keep in communicaiton with your students teacher!
Please note: For those of you taking extended family trips enjoy the long break but please keep in mind that Christmas break starts on Friday, December 19th and school resumes Tuesday, January 6th. We want to ensure you do not receive any unexcused absences. Thank you for your help with this. We love seeing your child on time and every day! Attendance is one of the most important factors for student success.
Students absent from school for 10 or more consecutive school days will be unenrolled from school!
MAP testing assessment for achievement in both math and reading will start December 1st running through January 30th! Please be sure that students are getting enough sleep, eating breakfast, and attending school regularly. Please talk to and encourage your child to take the assessment seriously and put forth their best effort as well as with their school assignments. The More you Know: The Power of the Imagination Gap
Boredom is often seen as something to be immediately "fixed" with a screen or structured activity, but for young children, it is a crucial catalyst for development. Embracing periods of unstructured, imaginative free time allows children to explore their inner worlds and develop key life skills. 👶
Here is why unstructured time is a professional development powerhouse for the youngest generation:
It Sparks Creativity: When a child has no instructions, they have to invent their own fun. A cardboard box transforms into a spaceship; couch cushions become a fort. This ability to create something from nothing is the foundation of innovation and problem-solving. 🧠
It Builds Resilience & Resourcefulness: Learning to navigate a moment without instant entertainment teaches children to rely on themselves. They practice patience, learn to self-regulate, and become resourceful, using the materials around them to engage their minds.
It Fosters Critical Thinking: Boredom gives children the mental space to think deeply, make decisions about how to use their time, and experiment with different ideas. This practice is essential for developing executive function skills.
It Teaches Self-Motivation: Children who are allowed to be bored learn how to initiate their own play and projects, leading to greater self-motivation—a vital skill in any future academic or professional environment. 🚼
In a world saturated with constant digital stimulation, intentionally providing space for downtime is a powerful investment in a child’s long-term ability to innovate, adapt, and thrive. Let's champion the power of the imagination gap.
