North High Newsletter
September 2025
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
The 2025-26 School Year is off to a good start. We are elated to see students engaged in learning and extra-curricular activities! Be sure to keep up with athletics and activities by following the Omaha North High Calendar at mhsaaconference.org.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Every minute counts and we appreciate your support with getting students to school on time each day. We are working hard to provide high quality learning experiences to help us reach our Moonshot.
We will have periodic hall sweeps to hold students accountable when they do not show up to class on time, once they are in school. Students caught in a hall sweep will receive a detention.
As a reminder, students are not allowed to use electronic devices (phones, earbuds, headphones, etc.) during the school day, with exceptions of before and after school, during passing periods and lunch. During lunch time, students need to be in the cafeteria or Viking Center in order to use their phones. Thank you for helping us create a positive and engaging learning environment.
We will be reviewing Safety Procedures and conducting safety drills in the coming weeks. If we need to implement any of the Standard Response Protocol, communication will be sent at the end of the day. We reserve real time notification (as an event is happening) for situations where action is required on your part. Please know that we value open communication and will do our best to keep everyone informed.
Please review the Newsletter for additional updates. Thank you for your continued support of the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please contact us at 531-299-2700.
Go Vikings!
Late Start Day - 9.23.2025
IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Expectations
PLEASE NOTE: All cell phones and earbuds/headphones must be off and away in all instructional areas of the building. This includes classrooms, the library, and anywhere learning is taking place. Students are not allowed to be on their phones when taking a pass from class. Students will be permitted to have their phones out during lunch and passing periods (as needed).
It is crucial that students come to school with charged iPads every day. Students will not be allowed to use their phones for class work.
Thank you for reinforcing this information with your student and partnering with North High.

- Please refrain from calling your student out of school early unless for an appointment.
- Please prioritize an on-time arrival to school daily.
Welcome to our New JROTC Instructors!
Omaha North High School is excited to welcome two new leaders to our Viking family as they take charge of the Army JROTC program.
Retired Army Captain Dan Preister served 22 years in the United States Army. He is married and the proud father of three boys, ages 11, 10, and 8. Captain Preister is thrilled to be a part of our Viking community and looks forward to mentoring cadets and helping them grow as leaders.
Retired Army Sergeant First Class Justin Mosley served 25 years in the United States Army. He is married and has three children, ages 20, 17, and 11. Sergeant First Class Mosley is excited to begin this new journey at Omaha North and is eager to work with our students through the JROTC program.
We are proud to welcome both of these outstanding leaders to North High and look forward to the positive impact they will make on our students and school community.
Extracurricular Activities
Please note, attending extracurricular activities, such as school dances, is a privilege. Students are expected to demonstrate the values of being a Viking consistently. Therefore, students in good standing must meet the following expectations to attend:
- On track for graduation
- Passing a minimum of 6 classes
- Fewer than the equivalent of 5 unexcused absences
- No out-of-school suspension for any violation the week of the event
If students fail to meet these expectations after purchasing a dance ticket, refunds will not be provided.
