🎄✨ Winter Break Countdown—Let’s Keep Attendance Strong Through 12/23! ✨❄️

Dear Families,

The holiday season has arrived, and excitement is building throughout our school! Classrooms are buzzing with winter projects, festive activities, and meaningful end-of-year learning experiences. As we prepare to head into this joyful time of year, we want to partner with you to finish strong, academically, socially, and in attendance.

🌟 Winter Break Information
Winter Break officially begins at the end of the school day on Tuesday, December 23rd (12/23). We hope everyone enjoys a restful, safe, and cozy holiday season.
Students will return to school on Monday, January 5th (01/05), ready to jump back into learning with fresh energy and a great start to the new year.

❄️ Why Attendance Still Matters in December:
Even as we get closer to break, these school days are filled with important learning and special experiences students don’t want to miss. Teachers are wrapping up units, completing hands-on activities, and engaging students in joyful seasonal lessons that strengthen both skills and classroom community.

Being present helps students:

  • Stay on track academically before transitioning into break

  • Participate in fun classroom celebrations and winter traditions

  • Maintain strong routines and reduce the “post-break reset”

  • End the year feeling successful, confident, and connected

🎁 How Families Can Help Us Finish the Month on a High Note:
✔️ Keep bedtime and morning routines steady—even with holiday excitement
✔️ Plan winter travel and appointments outside of the school day
✔️ Encourage students to attend every day through 12/23
✔️ Reach out if your family needs support with attendance or routines—we’re here to help

As we count down to Winter Break, let’s continue working together to ensure our students finish the month with strong attendance, positive momentum, and lots of festive joy.

Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication. We wish all our families a warm, safe, and wonderful Winter Break. We look forward to welcoming our students back on January 5th for a bright start to 2026!

Main Office Minutes 🌸🌷🌸

We love partnering with you to support our students! Please remember to keep your child’s contact and address information up to date. If anything changes, simply stop by the office or give us a quick call—we’ll take care of the rest.

Our office is a busy place, especially during arrival and dismissal times. We kindly ask that, whenever possible, you plan visits outside of these times so that we can assist you promptly and smoothly. If you need to pick your child up early, please do so before 3:40 PM, as students are actively engaged in learning until 3:50 PM, and we want to minimize classroom interruptions.

Our front office is always here to help! We open daily at 8:30 AM, so feel free to stop in or reach out with any questions.

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community

Student Recognition Walls ! Student Recognition Walls !

Attendance Wall!

We use this board to celebrate and track our school’s attendance in a fun and engaging way. Each class gets to see their progress grow, which helps build excitement and a sense of teamwork. By making attendance visual and interactive, students are encouraged to take pride in showing up each day and understand how important it is to be here and ready to learn. It’s a simple, positive way to foster responsibility, community spirit, and school pride.

Wall of Fame!

We use our Wall of Fame to highlight and celebrate positive office referrals in a fun and meaningful way. When students go above and beyond—whether through kindness, leadership, effort, or good decision-making—their achievements are recognized and displayed here. Seeing their photo and name showcased helps build pride, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. It also encourages others to strive for positive choices and supports a school culture rooted in respect, responsibility, and community. Our Wall of Fame is a daily reminder that great choices deserve to be celebrated.

Community School Business! Community School Business!

From the Community School Facilitator:

Did you know that Logan Elementary has a community center? It is in the back of the building in trailer #4. If you are in need of food, cleaning supplies, books, clothing, or toiletries, please stop and see Mr. Little (Community School Facilitator). Also, we have been working with parents on job applications. Everything is completely confidential. We are extremely excited and proud of the work we do with our students, families, and our wonderful community.

Library Corner Library Corner

A special shout-out to Mr. Parker and our Community School partnership. We were able to purchase new books for the library and the Book Vending Machine. The students are enjoying the new books in the library, and we are very grateful for the latest additions!

Please remind your students to return their library books. We are working on being responsible, and students will not be able to take out a new book if they have not returned their previous books.

Need a book to read while off over Winter Break and can't make it to the Baltimore County Public Library?

Stop by Logan and visit our Little Free Library outside by our flower garden!

Don't forget to READ, READ, READ!

Instrumental Music Notes

Thank you for a great start to our band and orchestra lessons! As the winter weather approaches, please make sure instruments DO NOT stay in the car overnight but stay inside your home at room temperature. String instruments can crack, strings can break, and the glue on the woodwind pads can weaken and cause the need for repair or replacement. Our winter concert will be in January 2026. We will share the information with you as soon as it is confirmed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email at lschultze@bcps.org or by Talking Points message.

Nurses Nook

Hi Logan families!

As we head into the colder months, we are seeing more coughs, colds, and sniffles in the health suite. To help keep everyone healthy, please do not send your child to school if they have a fever (100.0°F or higher per BCPS guidelines), vomiting, or diarrhea. Please do not medicate your child with Tylenol or Motrin before school to lower a fever and then send them to school.

It is okay to send your child to school with congestion, a mild cough, or cold symptoms!

Please also make sure your child comes to school with a warm coat, hat, and gloves for arrival, dismissal, and recess. It is also a great time to go over lice prevention tips, like not sharing hats or coats with others. If your family needs help with warm clothing, please reach out.

For students with asthma and other respiratory conditions, we are seeing a lot of respiratory flare-ups. It is crucial as a first response to have the rescue inhaler in school. If your child is prescribed a rescue inhaler, please provide a doctor’s order and a rescue inhaler in the original box with your child’s name and the pharmacy label. We must have both, or we cannot use it.

If you have any questions or need new forms, please contact me at 443-809-7096 or awiley@bcps.org.

Warmly,
Nurse Andie

Pre-K

Dear Pre-K Families,

As we head into the colder months, please remember to send in a seasonally appropriate change of clothes for your child. Winter weather can be unpredictable, and having extra clothing helps keep everyone comfortable throughout the day.

This month, our students are exploring their environment, learning about recycling, and discovering ways to take care of the world around them. After winter break, we are excited to begin a special project where students will help create a classroom coral reef!

In the classroom, we are continuing to build important early learning skills, including:

  • Subitizing (recognizing quantities within 10 without counting)

  • Letters and letter sounds

  • Rhyming

  • Writing our first and last names

You can support your child at home by:

  • Encouraging self-help skills (zipping coats, cleaning up, opening containers, etc.)

  • Reading together daily

  • Inviting them to write their name or label items at home

  • Singing rhyming songs or pointing out rhyming words in books and play

Thank you for your partnership and support. We wish all our families a warm, joyful, and safe December season!

We cannot believe it is already December!! We have already learned so much and are growing our brains every day! Winter break is coming up at the end of this month. We have some suggestions on what you could do over break to learn and have fun at the same time! We sent home a list of heart words and words to decode that you can make into flash cards. Put the flashcards in different places around the house and make it like hide and seek and when they find them they need to read it. For math students can practice addition and subtraction problems with their toys or objects around the house. We hope you have a wonderful break and don’t forget to send students in a coat each day! 😊

1st Grade

Winter Break will officially begin on December 24th. As we approach this time away from the classroom, we kindly encourage families to support continued learning by maintaining strong reading habits and consistent daily routines.

Regular reading—just 10–15 minutes each day—plays a critical role in strengthening foundational literacy skills, building vocabulary, and supporting overall academic growth. We encourage families to provide opportunities for students to read independently, listen to stories being read aloud, or explore a variety of age-appropriate books together.

In addition, maintaining familiar home routines throughout the break will help ensure a smooth transition when school resumes. Consistent bedtimes, structured daily expectations, and designated quiet periods for reading or reflection can greatly benefit students’ focus, behavior, and readiness to return to learning in January.

We sincerely appreciate your partnership and ongoing support in fostering a positive and stable learning environment for our first graders. Your efforts at home make a meaningful difference in their success.

2nd Grade

Wow—can you believe it’s already December? It’s been a wonderful few months of school, and we truly appreciate all the support from each and every one of you.

In module 4, of reading, we will listen to, read, and view a variety of texts and media that present them with information that stories convey messages to readers. As we build our vocabulary and synthesize topic knowledge, we will learn more about the important lesson that can be learned from the characters; and just like real people, characters in stories make mistakes and learn from what they do wrong.

In unit 4, of math, we will explore measurement. We will explore measurement in the context of a giant's world, complete with inchworms (inches), footworms (feet), and yardworms (yards) and have multiple opportunities to make conversions between inches, feet, and yards. These activities continue to reinforce measurement concepts and skills, but also lay the important groundwork for comparing amounts by multiplication and understanding proportions in later grades.

As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. We go outside every day, weather permitting. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones!

3rd Grade

Happy December 3rd Grade Parents and Guardians,

We are getting close to the end of the calendar year, and we are wrapping up a few of our units in school. We just wrapped up our Personal Safety Health Unit, our Addition and Subtraction Unit, and our Stories on Stage Unit. Please continue to ensure that your student is completing their weekly homework packets that are sent out each Monday and ensure they are returned on Friday to be scored by their teacher. In addition, we are noticing an uptick in student behaviors. We are asking that you have a conversation with your student about how to continue to show respect to themselves, teachers, and other students. We have started to discuss with our students that they will be taking the Maryland State Assessments at the end of the school year, students must apply their skills and show determination, many students are struggling with doing this in class during independent work and are giving up quickly, please also discuss this with your student!

Important Dates Coming Up:

  • 12/10 APPT Meeting @5:30

  • Sprit Week 12/8-12/23

Have a wonderful Holiday and as always please reach out to your students teacher with any questions or concerns.

4th Grade

Hello Parent/Guardians!

Here’s a quick update on what we’ll be focusing on in ELA, Math, and Content for the month of December:

ELA

In Module 4, students will listen to, read, and view a variety of texts that present them with examples of what makes someone a hero. A genre focus on fairy tales and myths provides students with opportunities to identify text and graphic features, point of view, and themes in order to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter narrative nonfiction to build knowledge across genres. As students build their vocabulary and synthesize topic knowledge, they will learn that with personal courage and confidence, people can face any challenge.

Writing

Our students are focusing on NARRATIVE WRITING this month. They will focus on the statement 'It takes courage to make a difference'. They will reflect and write about someone they know that has made a difference in their life and construct a story about how that person made an impact.

Math

In this unit, students study addition, subtraction, and measurement concepts. As part of their work, they will investigate and use the standard addition and subtraction algorithms. They compare the use of algorithms to other methods and make generalizations about which work best for certain problems.

Content

We have started our new unit in Health: Growing and Changing. Throughout this unit, students will investigate healthy relationships, boundaries, & how to handle and express feelings effectively.

Thank you for your continued support. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.

5th Grade

Parents and Guardians,

Happy December from the 5th Grade Team! Students are getting into their routines, building friendships, and showing more independence each day. We’re so proud of the hard work and positive attitudes they bring to class!

In Reading and Writing, we’re continuing Module 4 of HMH Into Reading, we are answering the question "How the geography of the thirteen colonies affect on the economic activity and the lives of the colonists?" Students are learning how to explain relationships and compare and contrast different colonial regions. They’re also practicing reading strategies like central idea and sumamrizing key events.

In Math, we’ve moved into Unit 4 of Bridges, which focuses on multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals. Students are learning how to use the standard algorithm for multiplication, looking at relationships between fractions, decimals, and whole numbers, and doubling and halving. We’re using area models, ratio tables, and partial products.

In Social Studies, we’ve kicked off our unit on the Revolution! Students are exploring the Declaration of Independence, The French and Indian War, and other important events that occurred during the Revolution.

Please continue to help your child remember to bring their Take Home Folder and Agenda to school each day. These help them stay organized and keep you up to date on important classroom information.

With appreciation,

- Ms. Werden, Ms. Cuppett, Ms. Waller, and Mrs. Jacques
