Cedarmere Elementary School proudly celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month! This month, observed each May, honors the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of AANHPI communities in the United States. The celebration originated as a way to recognize the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. in May 1843 and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in May 1869, which was largely built by Chinese immigrants.

At Cedarmere ES, approximately 12% of our student population identifies as Asian, and we are proud of the diversity within our school community. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all cultures are recognized, respected, and celebrated. Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to learn about and appreciate the traditions, histories, and contributions of AANHPI communities as we continue to grow and learn together.

Important Update: End-of-Year Literacy Reporting

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to to keep you informed about the upcoming timeline for the Ready to Read Act reporting and spring assessments. Our teachers are working hard to finalize student screenings to ensure you have a clear picture of our child's literacy progress.

Accessing Your Child's Report

We know you are eager to see your child's growth. Please be aware that Home Reports will not be available until after the last day of school.

Once the school year concludes, you can conveniently access these literacy reports through the Parent Focus Portal. These updated letters will provide a comprehensive summary of your child's end-of-year data and their "Ready to Read" status.

We encourage you to log in to the portal after the summer break begins to review this information. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child's reading journey!

Chronic Absenteeism: 19.28%

📚 Attendance Matters at Cedarmere!

The Maryland State Department of Education has placed a strong emphasis on student attendance, recognizing that consistent school attendance directly impacts learning and overall student achievement. Simply put, the more students are present, the more opportunities they have to grow and succeed.

I would like to sincerely thank our Cedarmere families for making attendance a priority this school year. Your partnership is making a difference! Because of your efforts, our attendance rate has increased from 92.6% at this time last year to an impressive 94.3% this year. Even more encouraging, our rate of chronic absenteeism has significantly improved, decreasing from 26.92% to 19.28%.

We are proud of this progress and look forward to continuing this positive momentum together!
