Student Illness: Non-Covid Related
If your child has a temperature greater than 100 degrees, please keep your child at home. They may return to school after 24 hours being fever free without fever-reducing medication
If your child vomits or has diarrhea during the night or the morning of school, please keep him/her at home. They may return to school after 24 hours of no vomiting/diarrhea episodes. (I am aware that anxiety can cause some of these symptoms and there is room for clinical judgment on a case-by-case basis).
If your child has a sore throat, they should stay home.
We have the capability of providing rapid covid tests to any student if given permission. I can also send students to Thundermist Health Hut for further workup of Flu or Strep testing with a one-time verbal consent. If a student needs to be seen again, they will require written consent for treatment at the Health Hut.
Decisional Tree for Covid-19
SYMPTOMS:
- Does your child have symptoms (fever or chills, new cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, new congestion or runny nose, nausea, or vomiting, or diarrhea) ?
DO NOT SEND TO SCHOOL- TEST on the day symptoms begin. Students should not be in school with symptoms.
- IF STUDENT IS ALREADY AT SCHOOL WITH SYMPTOMS- School nurse will ask student to mask, and get permission to test. Students will be dismissed if symptoms are present. Follow-up with a pediatrician for treatment of symptoms will be recommended if the test is NEGATIVE.
- If a student is POSITIVE, they must isolate for the next 5 days. Isolation ends on day 6 and students may then return to school as long as no symptoms are present and should mask through day 10. So isolate for 5 days, and mask for 5 days.
Exposure:
- Have they recently been exposed to someone with covid?
- If no, send them to school
- If yes, send them to school, masked and monitor for symptoms for ten days after exposure. They should wear a well fitting mask for 10 days, and get tested after 5 full days. They may stay in school, masked, while they have no symptoms.
