Mrs. Stark's Message
We are up and running with our routines and procedures! We had a lot of learning taking place this week! Each day, ask your child to tell you something that they learned. It will help you to stay connected and show them that we are one team.
Parents, please note that if your child is in before care, you can walk them to the front door, but they need to walk themselves in the building and to the cafeteria. If your child is late to school, however, you do need to press the button to be buzzed in and come in the building to sign your child in. These safety procedures ensure that we know who should and shouldn't be in the building at all times.
Hearing and vision screenings will be done by our school nurse this week. for all first and third graders. If your student doesn't pass the screening, you will receive a referral letter to see a specialist.
At school this week, we focused on looking people in the eye and greeting them with positive words. Have your child carry this skill out at home when family and friends visit. They are doing an excellent job practicing it in school!
Upcoming Dates
- 9/11 PTA meeting at 6:00 in the media center
- 9/23 PTA Produce Pick Up
Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs. Stark
Stay in the Game! 🏈
Attendance is so important! In North Olmsted, we have a partnership with the Cleveland Browns to promote consistent attendance at school. In Ohio, attendance is calculated in hours, so even tardies matter! Getting to school on time means that your child has the opportunity to get unpacked, eat breakfast, visit with friends, and get in the right mindset for their day. Coming in even 10 minutes late can really throw off a child's day.
In future newsletters, we will share tips to help families promote consistent attendance. You will also hear about some student incentives throughout the year as part of our Stay in the Game program!
Childhood Cancer Awareness Day
We have been asked to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by joining other schools in wearing Gold on Tuesday, September 9th. Together, we can bring hope, healing, and awareness to this important cause.
Learning Fun
Officer Felton has been doing citizenship lessons with our first graders. Ms. Kuch's class really enjoyed it!
2nd graders are learning to do independent work while Mrs. Jacko spends time working with students in small groups.
Ms. Kirst has been teaching digital citizenship lessons to students. Ask them about what they are learning about internet safety.
2nd grade has been working on sketch notes. Ms. Greene's class was making their selfie sketch notes. I had no idea so many students liked cheetahs!
Congratulations, Yahia for earning a kindness leaf for being so helpful during a day when students had to practice being patient and flexible because of factors that were out of their control.
The third Maple Expectation is "Be Responsible." Students are taking ownership of their environment and helping to collect trash to get ready for recess.
Fall Testing
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) is given in both reading and mathematics. These computer-based assessments are given in the fall, winter and spring of each year. Results are used to set goals and pathways for learning!
Encouragement and reinforcement from families is always welcomed & appreciated!
Back to School Forms
Please be sure that you have updated your Back to School Forms in the Parent Portal! In order to receive important communication, such as when school is cancelled, this needs to be completed annually.
If you have forgotten your password and need your account to be reset, please contact Mrs. Miller in the office. She can also walk you through the process over the phone. The Parent Portal link can be found below.
