HOMECOMING NEWS: OCT. 2 is around the corner
The Weekly Reset: ⚡ ISSUE #5: Group Projects & Caffeine Myths
🤝 SOCIAL FOCUS: Group Project "Contracting"
"Clear expectations prevent future resentments."
Nothing causes group project tension faster than silent assumptions about who is doing what.
The Quick Fix: Before diving into work, spend 3 minutes setting a mini "group contract." Define who is doing what part and when it’s due to the team (aim for 24 hours before the real deadline).
Why It Works: It removes awkward guesswork and keeps everyone accountable without personal conflict.
🧠 EMOTIONAL FOCUS: The "Catch & Flip" Method
"I'm going to fail this class" isn't a fact—it's an anxious thought.
Negative self-talk distorts reality, making challenges feel like permanent failures.
The Action: Practice Catching & Flipping negative thoughts:
Catch: "I'm terrible at math."
Flip: "Math is tough for me right now, but I can ask for help on these specific three problems."
Why It Works: Shifting from absolute statements to actionable ones moves your brain from feeling helpless to problem-solving.
🥗 HEALTHY LIVING FOCUS: The Caffeine Curfew
That 4:00 PM energy drink might finish your homework, but it destroys your sleep cycle.
Caffeine has a half-life of 5–6 hours. An energy drink at 4:00 PM means half that caffeine is still pumping through your body at 10:00 PM.
The Upgrade: Set a hard 2:00 PM Caffeine Curfew.
The Alternative: If you hit an afternoon slump, drink a glass of ice water and do 10 jumping jacks or stretch for 60 seconds to naturally boost alertness.
🎯 THIS WEEK'S MICRO-CHALLENGE
Social: Establish clear task division during your next group project.
Emotional: Catch yourself using an "always" or "never" statement and flip it.
Healthy Living: No caffeine after 2:00 PM for three days straight.
