January 2026
From the Principal
Hello Page Families
We are now two weeks into the new year at Page, and it has been great to see students reconnecting, reestablishing routines, and diving back into learning. Classrooms are busy with thoughtful instruction, and our staff has been intentionally supporting students as they settle back in and reset expectations. This time of year gives us an opportunity to build on the strong foundation already in place while continuing to grow together as a school community. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we work to ensure Page is a welcoming, engaging place for every student.
Warmly,
Teresa Collins

4th Grade Musical
Please join us on January 29th at 6 pm for Martin's Message! Our 4th grade will present an inspiring concert as we sing and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message and vision for unity together!
In 1964, he earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his commitment to peace, nonviolence and civil rights. He said, “Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.”
He’s an inspiration to us over half a century later because:
He believed in peace even when faced with violence.
He demonstrated courage and inspired hope.
He stood up for equality and justice.
He encouraged unity and working together to build a better world.
Dr. King left us a legacy of love — a revolutionary, devoted and specific kind of love that sometimes can seem beyond our understanding. He practiced and preached the principles of nonviolence, speaking out in the name of love, and striving for the common good.

District Wide TAG (Talented and Gifted) Identification
Talented and Gifted (TAG) identification is right around the corner, and we are beginning to take referrals for our program. The SPS Talented and Gifted program assesses through district-wide tests and classroom work samples whether or not your student has the potential to perform 95%ile or above in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Intellectual giftedness in relation to their peers. The 95%ile means that if your student were in a line of 100 students their same age, they would know more than the first 95 students in line. These students are at the top of their class and typically above most students in their entire grade level at school, and require more advanced work to meet them at their rate and level of learning to keep them challenged.
Teachers, families and specialists can all refer students for identification if they feel they meet the criteria. Students must be referred for screening no later than February 6th in order for TAG contacts to be able to gather data for the upcoming testing session. After you refer them for screening, the TAG Contact will work with teachers to examine current data for the screening and be in contact with you about whether or not the student qualifies for further identification procedures and assessments. If your student qualifies, the TAG Contact at the school will share with you a few forms to begin filling out for your student to gather additional data and will provide additional information about further assessment.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your school’s TAG Contact: Brittany Adair at brittany.adair@springfield.k12.or.us
Electronic Devices Reminder
We are seeing a few students wearing smart watches to school. As a reminder, beginning in September 2025, Springfield Public Schools requires that all student electronic devices be off and away from the bell to bell. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, headphones or earbuds, tablets, and any other internet-connected devices. Thank you for helping us maintain a focused learning environment for students.
Cafeteria PBIS Booster: The Royal Tater 🥔👑
We are launching a schoolwide cafeteria PBIS booster to reinforce positive cafeteria expectations. Students will work together to earn Tater Tots by demonstrating clear cafeteria expectations during lunch.
Each grade level can earn daily Tater Tots for successfully meeting the focus expectation, starting with using the Quiet Signal. Progress will be tracked on a large chart in the cafeteria so students can see both grade-level and schoolwide growth. When all grade levels earn four Tater Tots, the entire school earns a lunch-time reward selected by our cafeteria staff. After each celebration, we reset and move on to the next cafeteria expectation.
This engaging, visual challenge helps build consistency, motivation, and strong cafeteria habits.
INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES
If snow or ice is predicted, designated staff monitor radar and forecasts and then take to the road between 4 and 6 a.m. to assess travel conditions on bus routes. The goal is to determine by 6:30 a.m. whether school will be closed, on delay, or operating as usual.
No news means no change. If you don't hear any information about Springfield Public Schools, you can assume that schools and busses are operating on their normal schedules. However, the decision of whether to send your child to school is always left to each parent. If you do not feel that it is safe to transport your child to school, contact the school to let them know.
After-school Activities:
If schools are closed due to hazardous weather conditions, all after-school activities are cancelled, including athletic games, practices, and building rentals.
Snow Routes:
Occasionally, the conditions do not warrant closing school, however some routes may not be safe to navigate a school bus. Families who live at certain higher elevations may need to bring their child(ren) to a lower elevation to catch the bus at an alternative location. The district has developed snow routes that may be used if hazardous road conditions exist. Snow routes may change from year to year and can be accessed online.
Additional information:
An additional information or specifics may be communicated through the FlashAlert system, district website, social media accounts, and if necessary via the auto-dialer system.
The district utilizes FlashAlert to notify media of any changes to the school schedule. Families and the community are also able to sign up to receive notification as they happen. Additionally, changes will be posted to the district's social media accounts, website and if necessary messages will be delivered via the auto-dialer system. Ensure that your contact information is updated at your student's school so you'll never miss a notification.
The Impact of Early Pick-Ups on Classroom Learning
At our school, every minute of instruction counts. When students are picked up before the school day ends, it may seem like a small interruption-but those missed minutes truly add up. Teachers carefully plan learning activities right up until dismissal, and stepping out early can cause students to miss important instruction, collaboration, and closure of their learning for the day.
Additionally, early departures can disrupt the entire classroom. When a student gathers belongings and leaves during a lesson, it can break the focus of both the child and their peers. Over time, frequent early pick-ups can leave students with learning gaps and make it harder for them to stay on track academically.
We understand that life happens, appointments, and family needs are sometimes unavoidable. When such occasions arise, we ask families to communicate with the school in advance whenever possible. By planning early dismissals carefully and limiting them to necessary situations, we can work together to support consistent learning and help all students stay fully engaged through the final bell.
Thank you for your partnership in ensuring that every student receives the full benefit of their school day!

Campus Supervision
Supervision for students starts at 8am when doors open for breakfast. All student dropped off will be asked to wait in the cafeteria even if they are not eating breakfast. If a parent stays with a student outside and waits for doors to open, they may wait in front of the school. There is no supervision prior to 8:00. PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR STUDENTS(S) OFF PRIOR TO 8:00.
Dress for Success
Students should wear shoes and clothes that are comfortable running and playing in. Students need appropriate shoes for recess and PE, so please save flip flops and high heels for home. Clothing should be free from any images of drugs, alcohol, or weapons. We have recess outside rain or shine, so please make sure your student is dressed for the weather.
PTO
We have an amazing and active PTO! We would love to have you join and make Page School even more amazing! Joining the PTO is a great way to connect with other families and provide input on school events. Our next PTO meeting is on Monday, November 10th.
Communication
It is very important that we have a correct email address for parents/guardians. You will be able to access communication platforms and we can send you important information and updates as we continue through the school year. You can update your email through your parentVUE account.
Our teachers use Seesaw as their primary communication platform. Please look for a link from your student's teacher to sign up for their class communication. If you have any trouble signing up for Seesaw please reach out. It is critical that you receive the communication shared via this app throughout the school year.
