J.R. IngramParent NewsSeptember 2024

JR Ingram Families,

We've just about completed our first month of school, and what a wonderful start it has been! We're off to a fantastic beginning, filled with exciting activities and great progress. Our 3rd graders have taken their Beginning-of-Grade (BOG) Reading test, while our K-3 and RTA students are working through their mClass assessments.

Today, we are expecting the release of our school report card grade from the State, and we're confident that the hard work of our students and staff will be reflected in this report.

We’re also thrilled to introduce our new math curriculum, Envision Math by SAVVAS, and a new program called SuccessMaker for differentiated practice in both reading and math. These tools are designed to ensure that every student gets the support they need to succeed.

Additionally, we now have a new app for Lee County Schools! If you haven't already, please download it as it will serve as our one-stop shop for information. The app replaces ClassDojo, and inside you'll find Rooms, where you can connect directly with your child's teacher and send messages. We appreciate your patience as we transition to this new system.

We’re excited to share that our student leaders will now be taking on a greater role in daily activities. Students will be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each morning, with student leaders leading both the announcements and the pledge. Our Color Guard has also started this week, and we are incredibly proud of these student leaders who are stepping up to take on such important responsibilities.

Soon, you'll receive an invitation to join Parent Campus, which replaces Parent Portal. This platform will give you access to your child's grades and test scores. We encourage all parents to connect as soon as it's live!

Our SRO, Deputy Cameron, would like to remind everyone to travel safely with children. She has observed students and younger siblings not in appropriate safety seats. Please make sure all children are properly buckled in, and remind anyone who assists with pickup to follow the proper safety protocols.

We’ll continue to send out newsletters like this monthly to keep you informed, so please take time to read them. Important information will also be shared through the Lee County Schools app, so stay connected.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to Principal Brewer or Assistant Principal Perez. We’re always here to help!

Warm regards,

Principal Brewer

What is mCLASS?

mClass is an assessment and instruction system that helps measure your child’s literacy development, mCLASS highlights what reading skills your child already knows and shares where they may need additional support.

The program also provides teachers with instructional reading activities for each student based on their assessment score, enabling educators to deliver targeted guidance on specific skills students may need support with.

All students in Kindergarten through third grade are given an mClass assessment three times a year for benchmarks at the beginning, middle and end of the year. Students are progressed monitored by their classroom teachers as well throughout the year.

School Day

7:30 a.m. Earliest Drop-Off Time

7:55 a.m. First Bell

8:00 a.m. TARDY BELL

8:00 a.m. Instructional Day Begins

2:30 p.m. Instructional Day Ends

Breakfast:

If your child is a car rider and will eat breakfast at school, it is encouraged that s/he arrives no later than 7:40 a.m. to allow time to eat and get to class on time. Breakfast will not be served after 7:55 a.m.

Tardies:

If your child arrives on campus after 8:00 a.m., the parent or guardian must park and accompany the student in the building and sign him/her in at the front desk.

Early Pick-Ups:

If your child must be signed out early, parents must arrive at the office by 2:00 p.m. Please realize the impact on your child’s education when he/she is consistently late to school or picked up early. Not only will they be missing valuable instructional time, but early sign-outs are an interruption to the teacher and the remaining students.

We will not make any transportation changes or release students between 2:00 –2:30 p.m. unless there is an emergency or unless the change or early dismissal has been pre-approved by the principal or assistant principal.

LATE PICK-UP:

Parents that repeatedly pick up children after 3:00 pm will be contacted by our social worker. If you arrive later than 3:00 pm, your child will be waiting in the front office. Please come in to sign them out.

Transportation Changes

NO transportation changes can be made over the telephone. There will be NO exceptions to this policy.

  1. Afternoon transportation is to be routine and regular.
  2. It is in the child’s best interest to have a consistent means of transportation to get home. We encourage you to have a schedule set at the beginning of school such that your child will have a smooth and fluid daily schedule. Transportation changes should be reserved for emergency situations.

  3. On the rare occasion that you need to change your child’s afternoon transportation, your request must be in writing and must be received by 10 am at our school. Only requests made by a parent or legal guardian will be considered. Transportation changes can require up to 3 days for processing.

  4. All transportation changes must be in writing and approved by the principal or assistant principal. No bus change requests may be made by phone, email, or messaging unless approved by school administration. Please do not ask for or leave a transportation change request on any voice mail.

Attendance Information

If your child is absent from school, he/she must have a note from parents when he/she returns. Examples of excused absences are illness or injury, quarantine, death in immediate family, religious observation, certain educational opportunities with prior approval of the principal, and medical or dental appointments.

  • A note from a doctor is needed if a child is absent for three or more days.

  • If your child leaves before 11:30 a.m., he/she is considered absent for the day.

  • Upon return, your child has three days to make up work he/she has missed.

Address/Phone Number Changes

Please immediately provide the school with written notification of changes in address and/or phone numbers. We need current telephone numbers in case of an emergency. Please direct any phone or address changes to Ms. Harris, our student data manager.

If your family is moving and your child will be attending a different school, you must obtain a withdrawal sheet for him/her. Please assist us by giving at least a day’s notice of this need. If your family is moving out of Ingram’s district and you wish for your child to remain at Ingram for the remainder of the current school year, please let us know so that we may keep accurate information on file. You must provide transportation for your child if you move out of Ingram’s district and get permission to remain here until the end of the school year. When you move, two new proofs of residence (electric bill or water bill and mortgage payment or deed or copy of lease) will be needed.
