Outdoor Recess Update

With the weather changing, I want to take this opportunity to share an update regarding outdoor recess procedures. As a District, we routinely review procedures in places - including those related to outdoor recess. New this winter season, building leaders will use thirteen degrees (with windchill factored in) as the cutoff temperature for outdoor recess. If it is below thirteen degrees with the windchill, students will participate in recess indoors.

Please note that other factors (such as ice on the path to the playground) unique to individual buildings may also impact the decision for outdoor recess. We look forward to a safe and healthy winter with our updated procedures!

Logitech Crayons for 3rd, 4th, and 5th

District 95 is excited to announce an extension of our Mobile Learning Initiative. Students in grades three, four, and five will soon receive a digital crayon made by Logitech that is compatible with district-issued student iPads.

This stylus is useful when drawing, working out math problems, taking hand-written notes, interacting with content, authoring essays, annotating text, and much more. Some highlights of the Logitech Crayon are its compatibility across apps and applications, usability for a variety of users, long-battery life, simplicity, and durability.

New District Student Information System

Beginning in the 23/24 school year, District 95 will adopt EduPoint Synergy (Synergy) as the District’s new Student Information System (SIS) - which will replace the current system, Home Access/eSchool. The SIS is home to enrollment, grades, class information, report cards, and a range of other functions. Home Access and eSchool will remain in place throughout the remainder of the 22-23 school year - but the district will begin using Synergy for registration and course selection for 23-24. Here are some upcoming dates where families can expect more information about Synergy:

  • January 2023 - Middle and High School course requests

  • March 2023 - Registration for the 23-24 School Year

  • June 2023 - Summer School administered using Synergy

  • August 2023 - New school year, new SIS (Home Access/eSchool are no longer accessible for students and families)

Learn more about the Synergy parent portal, ParentVUE (actual deployed features will depend on implementation schedule and compatibility with other district systems).

We will continue to update you as the district completes the migration from eSchool/Home Access to Synergy.

Inside Front Office

A huge shout-out and thank you to the Zaro/Mery family! They change out the bulletin boards outside of the school office and gym each and every month. Their creativity is endless! This year they also asked to update the board inside the front office (Go Mustangs!!) If you have a chance, stop by to see the amazing intricacy of that board.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make SL look so good!

Our SL classes have been enjoying their monthly Buddies meetings! Each classroom is matched with another younger or older classroom in the building. They read books, complete activities, and get to know one another in a new way. I will highlight different Buddy Classrooms each month. In November, Buddies found things they had in common and created a Horseshoe Frame that showcased their similarities. These will be proudly displayed around the building.

Attendance Reminder

In anticipation of winter and spring breaks (common times for families to take vacations together), we wanted to send a few reminders regarding school attendance. Students who are absent from school for 15 consecutive days will be dropped on the 16th day due to non-consecutive missed days of school (per Illinois School Code). Families may re-enroll at any time upon their return to the District/once their students’ ability to attend school in-person changes.

We highly value in-person learning, and know that our students perform best when they have direct access to classroom instruction and their teachers. Please plan family trips accordingly in order to avoid your student(s) being dropped from attendance, and to ensure maximum access to in-person learning.

Health Update

As we enter another cold and flu season, please continue to monitor your student for changes in health. The health offices have noticed an increase in Influenza A cases in recent weeks, and we want to ensure that we are keeping our school communities healthy and safe. Please be reminded that students should stay home if they are not feeling well.

November Student of the Month

Each month District 95 asks every building to select a student who represents our District Values of collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, high expectations, integrity, perseverance, and respect. For the month of November, Spencer Loomis chose 3rd Grader, Brianna L.

The third-grade team is very proud to present Brianna L. as our Student of the Month. Brianna makes a positive impact on her classroom every day. She is a ray of sunshine and encouragement for others, and continually contributes to learning activities and discussions. One example is the enthusiasm she brings to our Morning Meeting – whether sharing or listening intently to others, you can tell that Brianna genuinely cares about her school family. Brianna takes in every opportunity and learns and grows from it, even the very challenging ones! Her hard work and determination have led to remarkable growth and successes. Congratulations, Brianna! We recognize you for being an amazing Spencer Loomis Mustang!
