September 2026
A message from Principal DeDe Pierce
Dear MECC Families,
I can’t believe we are already three weeks into the 26-27 school year!
Our calendars are full of fun and exciting events for you and your child! One of these includes Donuts with Grown-Ups. On September 17, your child gets to invite up to 2 special grown-ups to come to the classroom and enjoy a donut snack and special activities together. Your child’s teacher will share more information along with a link for the adults to preregister so that check-in will go smoothly. Please preregister by September 11, and thank you for keeping it to two grown-ups per student as our classrooms have limited space and we want everyone to enjoy all the activities. We have designed this to be a special time for your child to have the undivided attention of their special grown-up(s), so, if at all possible, please find other arrangements for any siblings for this event. AM session is at 10:30, PM session is at 2:45.
Another event that will be oh-so-fun is our Big Truck Night – Gearing up for Kids on October 22 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Children are encouraged to dress up and Truck and Treat with the vehicle owners and booth hosts during the event. More details to follow!
Here are other upcoming events to mark on your calendar:
Week of September 14 - Starlets and PAT Playgroups begin
September 14 - MECC PTO Spirit Night @ Chick Fil-A
September 17 – Donuts with Grownups
September 22 – MECC Fall Student Pictures
October 14/15 – Parent/Teacher Conferences (No school either day for MECC students)
You might have noticed Officer Gabel assisting with parking on Thursday. We have had several families parking in undesignated and incorrect parking spaces which causes an unsafe environment for children. Thank you for remembering to park in one of the two parking lots directly in front of our building, not in the staff parking lot or the drive alongside the building.
Looking forward to a wonderful year!
Ms. DeDe
MECC Principal

🩺 Nurse's News 🩺
Welcome back to school everyone!
Immunizations & Health Assessments:
Don’t forget to turn in your child’s most up-to-date immunization records. The District deadline for immunization compliance is 10/1/2026.
If this is the first time your child has been in a Kansas school an updated Health Assessment (physical) is required.
Hearing/Vision Screenings:
Students will have hearing and vision screenings during the school year as required per state law. Results will ONLY be sent home if further testing is needed. Screenings are very basic and are not meant to take the place of professional evaluations.
Please feel free to stop by my office, call or email me if you have any questions or concerns about your student. Thank you all for taking an interest in your child’s health and well-being.

📝September’s class counselor lesson will focus on identifying emotions with the book Color Monster by Anna Llenas. We are also learning the words and actions to a song about being Safe and Kind.
📝Our first round of counseling small groups at MECC will begin at the end of September. The focus of our counseling small groups is to help students develop and practice the skills of regulating emotions, building friendship skills and how to manage our feelings related to our changing families. Teachers will refer students using social-emotional data which will help identify which students need additional support in these areas. Once students are referred to the counseling small groups, Ms. Mandy will reach out to parents with more information and gain parent consent.
📝Our school’s building-wide expectations are below. We incorporate the words and pictures in all parts of our day. Please help us with discussing what “Be Safe and Be Kind” looks like and doesn’t look like at home with your child. Thank you for your support!
