School Pictures were sent home!

School pictures were delivered and were sent with students last week. Please check your child's backpack for the picture package that you ordered. Phy. Ed:

Simon Rates participating the game Battleship with his 3rd grade peers. The students have been working on their overhand throwing and teamwork skills.

Kindergarten:

This month, students will grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and thinkers. In literacy, they’ll practice letter sounds and blending while exploring inspiring stories about underdogs and heroes. In math, they’ll build number sense through counting, comparing, addition, and subtraction. We’ll finish our Wild Weather unit, learn about identity and what makes each of us unique, and focus on gratitude. Oh and watch out! You never know when you will see one of our turkeys in disguise!

1st Grade:

First grade celebrated the end of their Knowledge Unit about the Systems of the Body by making hand skeleton pictures. We traced the bones of the hand and then used vegetable oil and dark crayons to "draw" the bones of the hand on the paper. It was a really fun craft that let us show off everything we had learned about the skeletal system.

3rd Grade:

Third grade is beginning a new CKLA unit about poetry where the students will learn about key poetry elements and even have the opportunity to write their own poems. In math students are learning how to pick out the best multiplication strategy for a given problem and about the connections between graphs and data. As a reminder, no school for students November 13th, and Thanksgiving break is November 25th-November 27th.

4th Grade:

Fourth grade learning and events in November 2026:

  • CKLA - students will be finishing up Medieval Times and beginning Unit 3- Poetry (Mrs. Cater has been working with our Literacy IST on getting out Caregiver letters for Unit 1, as there have been errors on Amplify/CKLA’s end -thank you for being patient).
  • Science: WAVES OF SOUND: Students are learning how sound waves travel from one place to another and they will build an instrument to bring to the Youth Symphony.
  • Social Studies - students will learn about the Revolutionary War and how the French and Indian War led to an American Revolution.

Free/Reduces Lunch Application Free/Reduces Lunch Application

Even though lunch and breakfast are free for all students, families should still fill out the application if they think they would qualify.

Oaklawn is part of a district wide grant to provide free breakfast and lunch to each student. Students are able to enter the school at 7:15am and get breakfast in the cafeteria. We still need families to fill out the Free/Reduced Meals application if they think they qualify. Families who qualify will get assistance for their child's field trips and sometimes state funding, grant money, etc use the statistics for free/reduced student counts. Food Department has sent letters to those families who have qualified for Free/Reduced Meals. If you didn’t get a letter and you think your family would qualify please complete the Free/Reduced Application form. The application is located in your IC Parent Portal under the “More” tab at the bottom then click on “Meal Benefits”. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Schiefelbein in the office. Link
