OCHS Principal's Update
September 2024
Update from Mrs. Burton
Our O-C Knights are back at it as we transition into a fun fall full of activities and memories for our students! This year, our OCHS Student Council has encouraged our student body to stay involved and keep their engagement high within the school day and in school activities! Their first quarter motto is, "You Belong Here!" They are challenging their classmates to get and stay involved in their student experience! I encourage you to talk to your student about what this looks like in his or her life.
POLISHING YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS FOR YOUR GO-TO APPS AND DEVICES
Please check out the following article from our Social Institute family curriculum:
To share or not to share? Whether it's our ad preferences, our geo-location, our personal photos, or the things we search for, we're constantly sharing information about ourselves online, often without realizing it. With tech companies rolling out fancy new privacy and security updates nearly every year, it raises a crucial question: How often should we be refreshing our privacy settings to stay safe? What are the smartest ways to do this, and what do the tech experts recommend?
Students are...
- Checking social media story settings to control who can see their content
- Accepting an app’s Terms & Conditions without necessarily scanning them
- Feeling pressured to share location, read receipts, or other personal information with friends online
- Deciding what to post on social media and considering the audience’s reactions
- Reacting to friend requests and messages from people they may not know in-person
- Meeting new people online and offline
- Choosing usernames and profile pictures that reflect their personality without compromising privacy
- Deciding when to block or mute someone and the reasons behind those choices
- Sharing photos or videos of friends online without their consent
- Enjoying multiplayer games while setting boundaries to protect personal information
- Adapting their privacy settings based on what their peers are doing or what they see as “normal.
