Principal's Pen February 23, 2024

Dear Parents,

Whether you know the Lunar New Year as Tet, Seollal, or Chinese New Year the beginning of the lunar calendar is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts for everyone. To celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon, our wonderful PTA picked the most gorgeous of the Lunar New Year celebrations that normally take place around the world – from crafts to stories to spectacular decorations in our school. The Lunar New Year festivities are so exciting and the decorations are extremely vibrant!

A very special thank you to Liz Ngo, Elspeth Spransy, Lisa Flanagan, Katherine Wynne and all of the volunteers who have taken their time to help celebrate the Lunar New Year! Our students are truly enjoying the parent visits with read aloud and crafts. Thank you to Mrs. Esra Murray for her coordination with our PTA as well as the use of the Library Media Center.

We will continue these celebrations through next week and end with a special assembly on Wednesday afternoon.

Wishing you all good health, prosperity, and happiness for your family.

Mrs. McGuire and Mr. Hartigan

Volunteers for the Cafeteria 2/22-2/27!

Food scrap recycling is coming to Julian Curtiss in February! The Eagles are building on their success at reducing cafeteria waste through the Zero Waste Schools program and will now separate all food scraps and compostable paper into a green bin for recycling. Students will learn about the impacts of wasted food and the benefits of composting for the health of people and the planet. The collected material will be picked up weekly by a hauler who will transport it to Quantum Biopower, an anaerobic digester in Southington. Instead of the food scraps being burned as trash, this valuable material will be processed into energy and compost, which can be used in our gardens.
