Driving Toward the Future: New Automotive Program at Pueblo West High School

Pueblo West High School is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new Automotive Technology program, offered in partnership with Pueblo Community College (PCC). This program provides students with the unique opportunity to gain hands-on training and industry-level knowledge in the fast-growing field of automotive repair and maintenance—all while still in high school.

Through the program, students will learn the fundamentals of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair, while working with modern tools and technology used by today’s professionals. The curriculum is designed to build both technical and employability skills, preparing students for immediate entry into the workforce or for further education in automotive technology at PCC or other institutions.

One of the most exciting aspects of this program is the chance for students to earn college credit while in high school. By learning directly from PCC instructors, students gain authentic career experience, industry certifications, and a competitive edge in their postsecondary and career paths.

The Automotive program is a proud addition to Pueblo West High School’s expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings. It reflects the school’s commitment to providing students with pathways that align with real-world careers and community workforce needs.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve with advancements in electric and hybrid vehicles, diagnostic technology, and sustainable practices, this program ensures that students are not only job-ready but future-ready.

Pueblo West High School and Pueblo Community College are proud to partner in driving innovation, opportunity, and career success for students.

Welcome Back to Mark Koopman, Athletic Director

I want to take a moment and welcome all the new families and students to Pueblo West High School and those families and students who are returning to the Cyclone family this school year. Athletic programs are taking great strides in providing competitive sports at all our levels and we thank every athlete for their commitment to their sport and our school!. Playing sports in high school is one of the greatest opportunities you will have in these four years of high school. It can teach time management, respect for self and opponents, preparation, adversity, work ethic, and how to handle the immediacy of success and failure, to name a few. Our coaches and athletes represent themselves and their program, our school as well as our student body, and our community with great effort and outcome. The saying “the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back” is nowhere more true than in high school athletics. I encourage our students to find a way to be involved in an activity while in school, even if it is not a sport because it will help you connect with other students who may have the same viewpoint. In the end, we are all Cyclones and we will continue to provide opportunities for students to create their path to success through our programs, coaches, sponsors, and our community. Welcome to Pueblo West High School!

-Mark Koopman

The school year may have just started, but our JROTC cadets are already making an impact. We kicked things off with the Color Guard at the Freshman Day Assembly followed by the Pigskin Assembly and game as well as two volleyball games. We showed our Cyclone Pride with more than 100 cadets participating in the State Fair Parade. This past weekend we conducted a carwash to raise funds to purchase new equipment for the Archery Team. A busy start — and just the beginning!
