From Principal Honeycutt
I hope your child has had a great start to the school year and is enjoying their experience here at North Buncombe Middle. It’s been wonderful to see our students settling in, connecting with classmates, and growing each day.
We’d love for you to join us this Wednesday from 4–6 PM for our Open House Tailgate! This is a great chance to chat with your child's teachers, connect with other families, enjoy food trucks, and celebrate our school community. We invite you to stick around afterward to cheer on our student-athletes at the home games. All school families are invited to enjoy a free hot dog meal, including chips, cookie and a drink!
I also want to take a moment to thank our incredible staff. Their hard work, care, and dedication are what make NBMS such a special place for our students.
Finally, a quick reminder that breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year. We encourage every student to take advantage of this program and fuel their day with a healthy meal.
Thank you for your continued support of our school—we couldn’t do this without you! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you might have, email me here.
With gratitude,
Mr. Honeycutt
Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Laura Hintz!
We are so proud to honor our amazing chorus teacher, whose passion for music and dedication to our students inspire us every day. From filling her classroom with beautiful music to building confidence and creativity in our students, Mrs. Hintz truly makes a difference at North Buncombe Middle School.
Join us in celebrating this well-deserved recognition!

New Online Spirit Store
We are excited to share that our school now has an online spirit store! Families can conveniently shop for a variety of apparel and accessories to show their school pride. The store is open year-round, making it easy to order spirit wear at any time. Spirit wear also makes a great gift for students, family members, and school supporters. When you purchase from the store, 10% comes back to our school and items are shipped directly to your address.

8th Grade Career Development Plans
Buncombe County Schools is excited to spotlight how we are supporting College and Career
Readiness for every student in grades 6-12 by partnering with NCCareers, a digital academic and
career planning platform designed to help your child discover future careers and take ownership of
their academic goals.
Starting July 1, 2024, under current North Carolina law, all 8th graders are required to have a Career
Development Plan. This plan is crucial for helping students align their academic choices with their
career goals as they prepare for high school and beyond. Additionally, this plan will be reviewed in
10th grade as part of the promotion process to 11th grade, ensuring students stay on track toward
their postgraduation goals.
Hawks Say Hello
Each year, our SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Club sponsors our "Hawks Say Hello" week. Hawks Say Hello Week is coming up from September 22 - 26. Each day, students will take part in quick, fun activities designed to spark conversation, encourage kindness, and help everyone feel more connected at school. It’s a simple way to build community and remind our Hawks that even small actions—like saying hello—can make a big difference.
