A message from the principal
Dear Dayton Families,
Thank you for a wonderful school year. It has been a true pleasure watching your children learn and grow over the past year. Our students are remarkably kind, creative, and capable. We are honored to be a part of their educational journey and are so grateful for your continued partnership.
As we look toward the final week, please make note of a few important dates and reminders:
Last Day of School: Friday, June 5 is the last day of school for elementary students. We encourage all students to wear their Dayton t-shirts to celebrate!
Report Cards: Report cards will be available online on Friday, June 12. You can (click here for directions on how to view them). Please call the office if you need assistance accessing ParentVUE.
Summer Celebration: Our PTO is sponsoring a Welcome to Summer celebration during recess on the last day of school, complete with popsicles, games, and inflatables. Please note: Students must have parent/guardian permission to enjoy the inflatables. If you already signed this waiver for the Olympics, no further action is needed.
We also want to share a quick update regarding our building. This summer, we will enter the next phase of our multi-year renovation project, focusing on updating our remaining classrooms. Our main office will remain open throughout the summer to assist you.
Finally, we want to say some special goodbyes. Congratulations to our incredible 5th graders and all the families moving on from Dayton Elementary this year. We are so proud of you, and the Dayton community will always be here to root for you.
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to Pam Baumgartner, our phenomenal paraeducator, on her retirement. Pam, you have touched many lives and made our school a brighter place. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!
Thank you for sharing your children with us. Have a safe, wonderful, and fun summer. If you are looking for additional resources to support your childโs learning over the break, please see the links below.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us manage the awesome activities the PTO has lined up. Think of it as getting a front-row seat to the best day of the year. Partial shifts are welcome! If you can only stay for an hour or part of a block, just note that when you sign up so we can plan accordingly. Sign up here: PTO End of Year Recess
๐ By the Numbers: Dayton Volunteer Impact
To say our volunteers are rockstars would be an understatement. Look at what this community accomplished together this year:
400+ volunteers showed up to support our students and staff
2,887 hours of time volunteered brought energy, fun and extra resources to our school
Countless memories have been made across classrooms, field trips and events
Because of you, our students enjoyed chaperone-led field trips, extra support in the classrooms, beautifully prepared materials from the workroom, memorable PTO events, and an incredibly successful Booster Fun Run that gave funds back to our school!
Thank You! Volunteers are the heartbeat of our school and you allow us to provide the enrichment opportunities and unforgettable events that make Dayton Elementary thrive. We are deeply grateful for the gift of your time.
Have a wonderful, safe, and happy summer break! Keep an eye out for back to school volunteer forms and opportunities next fall!
Sincerely,
Kristin Gow, Volunteer Services Coordinator

Explorations - Thank You!
As another exciting year of Explorations comes to a close, I want to thank all of our incredible students and families. Your enthusiasm, encouragement, and love of learning helped make this year such a memorable one. It has been so fun discovering, creating, and learning together and we couldn't ask for a better place than here at Dayton. Enjoy the summer!
Library
What an incredible year weโve had in the library! Together, weโve read many wonderful books, cast our votes for the Minnesota youth reading awards, and collaborated in our creative makerspace stations. This year alone, our amazing Dayton readers checked out over 27,000 books! Seeing our students this excited about reading is the absolute best part of my job. Thank you for being such a wonderful partner in your childโs reading journey.
โ๏ธ Summer Reading is Coming! Keep an eye out for summer reading packets coming home in your childโs backpack soon. These reading suggestions curated by our district librarians are perfect for keeping those reading muscles strong all summer long!
๐ Final Book Return Lastly, please take a look around your home and vehicles for any stray library books. All books are due back in the library now. Thank you for helping us get every book back on the shelves and ready for next year!

- A student is considered absent for a half day if they arrive more than 60 minutes late up to half of the school day.
- A student is considered absent for a full day if they arrive to school and is picked up within 90 minutes.

Important Information
Student drop-Off: Students may be dropped off starting at 9:15 AM. For your childโs safety, please do not drop them off before this time, as there is no supervision.
Arrival: Classes begin promptly at 9:30 AM. Students must be in their classrooms by this time to avoid being marked tardy.
Dismissal: Parent pick-up begins at 4:00 PM in the Dayton and Rebel parking lots. Please arrive on time. DISMISSAL PROCEDURES LINKED HERE.
Dismissal Changes: Please call the Main Office (763-506-2200) by 3:00 PM for any dismissal changes. Requests received after 3:00 PM may be denied, and the student will follow their original dismissal plan.
Early Dismissals: Early dismissals are discouraged. Students leaving a few minutes early often miss important last minute instructions and/or reminders. Interrupting classes to call students to the office also distracts other students and interrupts end of the day classroom routines. Early dismissals should occur only in rare circumstances. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside of school hours.
If an early dismissal is necessary, please arrive before 3:30 PM. Students will be called to the office upon your arrival; please allow extra time for us to locate them.
*Only parents and legal guardians are authorized to pick-up. To authorize a different individual, you must call the office in advance at 763-506-2200.
We are a locked facility and a photo ID is required for all visitors and student pick-ups.
