Students Gain Real-World Financial Skills at Junior Achievement REAL Life Program
On Friday, November 15th, students in 11th and 12th grade participated in the Junior Achievement REAL Life program brought to us by Junior Achievement of South Central PA.
REAL Life is a hands-on financial literacy program that helps high school students learn essential money management skills. Students make real-world financial decisions like budgeting for housing, transportation, groceries, credit scores, and more. The event emphasizes the importance of responsible spending, saving, and planning for unexpected expenses. In addition, students practice interviewing skills, how to present themselves, and what to do after an interview. Students walk away with a better understanding of how all choices impact their future and how they can make informed, confident decisions in their personal lives. Thank you to Ms. Mancini and Mrs. Hume for coordinating this event with JA.

A Magical Weekend: Steelton-Highspire Theater Shines with “Puffs”
This past weekend, Steelton-Highspire Theater Company produced their Fall production of “Puffs: or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic”. The play was under the production team of Ms. Anderson, Ms. Clemmons, Mr. McIntosh, Mr. Ranaglia, and Mrs. Roedts and featured over 30 students on cast and crew. The production was well received over its 3 day run with over 100 people in attendance.
The show starred junior Cain Cancel as Wayne Hopkins, freshman Alexis Evans as Oliver Rivers, senior Omariana Martin as Megan Jones and senior Marcedes Allen as The Narrator. The seniors were honored at the closing night performance including: Omariana Martin, Marcedes Allen, Oliver Sundberg, Bryona “H.R.” Hayes-Roberts, Alexis Powell, and Zaniya “Koda” Williams.
If you were able to come out and see the performance I’m sure that you were spell bound by these amazing young thespians! They all worked diligently to ensure that this year’s fall production was a success. Make sure that you check out the musical in the spring! (It’s sure to be a uproariously funny and pink!)
Theatre Students Inspired by Blithe Spirit at Hershey Area Playhouse
Mr. Ranaglia and Mrs. Anderson recently took the Theatre students to see Blithe Spirit, a play performed at the Hershey Area Playhouse. The story follows a seemingly happy couple whose lives are upended when a séance unexpectedly brings the husband’s late wife back from the dead. As he reconnects with his first wife’s spirit, the strain begins to test his relationship with his current wife, creating humorous and dramatic tension.
The show was directed by our very own district librarian, Ms. Feldser. Feldser has been with the Hershey Area Playhouse since its inception. She has been a stage manager, producer, director, actor, a teacher of the Theatre Academy, and served on its Board of Directors for twelve years, six as its Chair. Feldser is also a playwright. She has written several scripts for the Theatre Academy and three one act musicals that have been featured at Mt. Gretna Playhouse. Her first full length play, The Other Woman, won Best New One Act Play at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in 2004 and was the first original production the Playhouse staged and she directed. Blithe Spirit marks her 40th show with the Playhouse.
The students were captivated by the performance, especially as they prepared to stage their own Fall play, Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, from November 15-17. After the show, the cast warmly engaged with the students, answering questions and offering advice on acting. Many thanks to Ms. Feldser and the Hershey Area Playhouse for an inspiring experience!
Kindergarten Fun at Paulus Farm Market Field Trip!
On Tuesday, November 12th, the kindergarten classes enjoyed an exciting field trip to Paulus Farm Market! The students had the chance to feed various farm animals, including sheep, goats, cows, and pigs. They also picked pumpkins and gourds and explored several fun play areas, such as a giant corn pit, a hay maze, a tractor slide, and even a Dirt Diner.
To top off the experience, everyone savored a delicious ice cream treat from the Cow-Lick Ice Cream Truck! This field trip was the perfect way to wrap up our science unit on living things. Students learned about the pumpkin life cycle, explored what plants need to survive, and practiced classifying objects as living or nonliving.
We’re so grateful to Paulus Farm Market for making this such a memorable and educational experience!
School Health & Dental Exam Important Information
The Pennsylvania School Health Law requires all children to have a physical examination upon original entry into school and in the 6th grade and 11th grade. This is also required of students transferring into school district with incomplete records from previous schools.
Dental exams are required for students upon original entry into school and in grades K, 3 and 7. Dental exams by the student’s own dentist are highly recommended, as their own dentist will be able to continue with follow-up care as needed. The school physician and dentist with parental permission will offer students, who do not receive an exam with their own primary care physician or dentist, an exam.
Please complete the lower section of this form and return it to school before December 1, 2024, if you do not want your student to receive these exams in school. Paper copies of this form will also be available in both the elementary and high school main offices. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Johanna Iftikhar-Khan, RN, BSN

Student Council Collaborates with Food Services
The elementary Student Council recently met with our food services department to gather student feedback on school breakfasts and lunches. During the meeting, Mr. Kevin Gouldner, Food Service Director, outlined the rules and regulations governing the program and expressed plans to implement student suggestions within those guidelines. We will reconvene to evaluate how students feel about the changes. This collaboration has been a great opportunity for students to voice their opinions, and they were excited to contribute to the discussion.
Building Empires: A Journey Through Human Geography
Mrs. Winter-Davis Human Geography classes recently completed a Create Your Own Empire project. From bustling cities to rural areas, Human Geography investigates the countries of the world, population trends, diverse cultures, and spatial patterns across various landscapes. With this project, students were encouraged to be creative in naming and designing their empire. They determined the environment including physical geography, climate, and natural resources. They also considered questions on where and how the people live, what religion they worship, and what sports are most popular. In conclusion, students designed a flag that represents their fictional empire. They were given the option of making their flag on paper or using Canva’s digital app.
Thanksgiving Lunch
Students and staff enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal served by food service staff and guest servers on Tuesday, November 19th. Thank you to our food services team as well as our guest who made this event special.
History & Creativity Combine to Honor Student's Memory
As part of their study on ancient Mesopotamian currency, students were asked to imagine themselves as leaders of a city-state and design a coin for their people. One student created a coin featuring his cousin, Na'Ryah, and named it the "13 coin."
