Boyden Extended Day Boyden Extended Day

Hello Boyden Families,

It has been "Movement Motivation Month" and we have been very busy! During the first week of November, we took full advantage of the nice weather outdoors, such as taking nature walks and utilizing our space for many different outdoor games. Most recently, we played and competed in our traditional "kickball tournament". With the help of our older student mentors, Kindergarten and 1st graders played Krazy Kickball, which is an instructional version of standard kickball. The students loved kicking the ball and quickly running all of the bases. Also, students in grades 2-5 played a 30 minute kickball game and scored as many points as possible. The students had so much fun that they even requested to play for another week. Lastly, we are starting to plan for our annual Turkey trot. We are setting up relays for inside the gym and we will trot around the Boyden playground and field when we can get outside.

Art:

We started painting on our canvases with brushes and paint pens, while also learning how to combine colors. These pictures came out great! Also, our older student mentors are going to lightly draw pictures onto the canvases so that the younger students can paint in the lines, which is a great opportunity for all the students to work together as a team.

Clubs:

Velvet/Sharpie Coloring Collection

Using sharpie markers, the color and darkness is enhanced on these pictures. The Boyden students love the animal prints and nature scenes and most students leave their sharpie art for me to hang on the side of our cabinet for a design. Make sure to check it out when you come in to pick up your child. This has become another favorite Boyden tradition!

Announcements:

Now that the weather is turning cold, we will have more indoor gym time, clubs and art projects set up for the students. Also, going outside will still continue to be an option during most days. Please send your child with the proper clothing to go outside if they choose to do so.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Boyden Extended Day Staff!

Elm Extended Day Elm Extended Day

Hello Elm Families,

During the month of November, students at Elm Extended Day had a kickball tournament with the other Walpole elementary schools. Our older students played a traditional game of kickball, while some of our younger students had an introduction to crazy kickball. Also, some of our students even made a sign and cheered for their school! Another favorite activity this month was a Disney trivia game, which was created by one of our high school staff members. These activities were a huge success!

The upcoming month of December will be full of winter fun, which includes Elm Extended Day's second annual Jingle Jog! Please continue to send your students with warm clothes, as we will continue to enjoy spending time outdoors, provided that the weather permits. Thank you!

Fisher Extended Day Fisher Extended Day

Hello Fisher Families,

November was Movement Motivation Month and we had so much fun! First, we organized an activity which combined freeze dance and an obstacle course. Students moved around the room and bounced a ball, all while the music was playing. Once the music stopped, they had to freeze. If anyone moved, then the group leader counted to five and everyone quickly found a colored spot. Other Fisher favorites included capture the flag, pillo polo, handball, soccer and basketball. Also, there was an exciting kickball tournament with the other schools. K-1 students played crazy kickball and 2-5 students played standard kickball. Lastly, one of our Extended Day students volunteered to run an exercise club, which was such a fun activity! In addition to our movement motivation activities, students have been busy creating different art projects for Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, as well as other fall projects.

In the upcoming weeks, we are excited to continue offering a variety of new activities at the program. A few of our students have already been practicing for another Extended Day concert with music, dancing and paper musical instruments. Lastly, this is a friendly reminder that we are continuing to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

OPR Extended Day OPR Extended Day

Hello OPR Families,

The month of November was fast moving at OPR Extended Day! We’ve been continuing with our collection of pop tabs, including a surprise visit with a full bag of tabs from a former Extended Day student, almost filling our first bucket! Also, thankfully the weather has been cooperating with us and we’ve been able to still enjoy some outdoor activities at the front playground. Soccer and football games have been in full swing outside getting most of the students involved. Additionally, the younger and older students enjoyed a game of kickball in the gym with Mr. Murphy, Ms. Paula and Ms. Andrea.

While spending time inside, we have gone to the gym a couple of times and we introduced many new activities and clubs, such as Ms. Danielle’s Taylor Swift club and Ms. Michelle’s Movement and Stretching Club (similar to Yoga), both of which have been a huge hit! Other clubs include Ms. Sandi’s sketch club, Freeze Dance, bead club, rainbow loom, iron on beads and the craft table corner. We’re also going to be introducing our own Extended Day walking club, which will take place both inside and out. Lastly, Ms. Paula has introduced a checkers and chess tournament that has even gotten the little ones involved for some friendly competition.

Looking ahead to December, students will have the opportunity to decorate holiday cards and ornaments for Walpole's First Responders, the Council on Aging and other local community organizations. OPR will be working collaboratively to create a poster board and cards for the Walpole firefighters.

Please continue to remind students to refrain from bringing in home toys to Extended Day. Bringing in home toys can become quite a distraction and often become lost and mixed in with our Extended Day toys. Students have been reminded of this as well. Thank you!
