Osseo Area Learning Center students visit the Guthrie Theater
Thanks to a District 279 Foundation grant, Osseo Area Learning Center students have the opportunity to see two plays at the Guthrie Theater this school year. On Nov. 13, students saw “Christmas Carol,” a classic story with universal themes of the power of generosity and redemption. Students will also see “Somewhere” on Jan. 27. During these trips, students get to see the plot, characters and themes come to life, which deepens their understanding of storytelling. Watching the performance encourages critical thinking about the story and production choices, cultivating empathy and cultural awareness by presenting diverse perspectives and emotional narratives. Students also have the opportunity to complete a reading literature unit for each play where they can earn .25 English credits toward graduation.
Osseo Education Center students participate in SOFit program
Students at the Osseo Education Center (OEC) were recently visited by Special Olympics Minnesota to learn more about SOFit, their wellness program designed to help encourage better health, stronger relationships and lifelong well-being, keeping teams and community groups active and engaged. The SOFit program focuses on emotional, physical, nutritional and social health.

Schools host bingo for students and families
Nothing brings out the competitive spirit quite like a school bingo night, where staff, families and students unite under a single goal: yelling "BINGO!" louder than anyone else in the room. Schools across the district have been hosting Bingo nights in recent weeks, bringing their community together for a night of celebration and fun, including Brooklyn Middle STEAM School (BMS) and Fernbrook and Rush Creek elementary schools.
At BMS, the bulldog mascot was present on Nov. 13 as families enjoyed bingo, snacks and a silent auction. At Fernbrook, students ate pizza while listening to numbers being called out in a packed gym on Nov. 14. At Rush Creek, students enjoyed bingo in the gym and a DJ dance party in the cafeteria on Nov. 14.
