Dear Warrior Families,

Walking the halls these past couple of weeks, one thing is abundantly clear: LHS is thriving. Watching our incoming freshmen settle in during Freshman Focus, seeing upperclassmen stepped up into leadership roles, and cheering on our fall athletes has set a fantastic tone for the semester ahead.

During our recent 9th-grade parent meeting, we talked a lot about the shift that happens in high school: helping students take ownership of their own learning. Whether your student is a freshman navigating high school for the first time or a senior preparing for their next step, building self-advocacy and independence is a core focus for us this year. Encourage your student to reach out directly to their teachers when they have questions about grades or assignments. Checking ProgressBook together once a week is a great way to guide them while giving them the space to manage their daily routines.

Our main goal every day is ensuring every student feels valued, safe, and empowered to succeed. Thank you for your continued partnership and we hope you have a restful Labor Day weekend!

Also new this year, our buses will be outfitted with tablets. This new technology will provide additional features through the app, including automatic push notifications when a bus is running early or late or when a substitute bus is being used.

2026-2027 Exam Policy 2026-2027 Exam Policy

As we continue to build a learning environment that values academic integrity and student mastery, we are implementing updates to our exam procedures for the 2026-2027 school year. Our goal is to ensure that our assessment process supports student well-being while maintaining high academic standards.

Here are the key changes you should be aware of:

  • We are removing the connection between attendance and exam exemption eligibility. We believe students should prioritize their health and recovery during times of illness rather than worrying about school attendance incentives.

  • All students are expected to be present at school on the designated days for final exams and assessments. Please note that we will not offer early exams. If a student is absent during the exam period, they will receive an "Incomplete" for the class until the exam requirement is fulfilled upon their return.

  • To ensure true mastery of course material, we are ending blanket exemptions for any classes except for those where a student takes an End-of- Course exam. For example, AP students will now demonstrate comprehensive knowledge through a teacher-determined final assessment, which may include a traditional exam or an alternative project (e.g., capstone, portfolio, or presentation) as an AP course does not have an EOC exam attached to it.

  • We will continue to use End-of-Course (EOC) assessment proficiency as a pathway for exam exemptions. Students achieving full proficiency may be exempt. Additionally, we are integrating EOC results more closely into final grades to better reflect student mastery throughout the term.

Junior/Senior Teen Ambassador Board Opportunity Junior/Senior Teen Ambassador Board Opportunity

Who?
Ohio Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board is open to rising high-school juniors and seniors from public, private, charter and online schools in Ohio, as well as students who are home-schooled. Ideal candidates are motivated and enthusiastic self-starters interested in law and government.

What?
The mission of the Teen Ambassador Board is to provide Ohio’s future leaders with an inside look at Ohio law and government. High-school students from around the state serve a one-year term and convene twice in Columbus during their tenure. The students advise the Attorney General’s Office on issues relating to teens and collaborate with their peers to develop solutions to those issues. Ambassadors are placed in small groups, advised by an assistant attorney general, and attend presentations on an array of topics. In addition, board members have the opportunity to meet with Attorney General Andy Wilson, attend events statewide throughout the year, visit our Columbus and regional offices, interact with assistant attorneys general and hear from elected officials.

When?
Teen Ambassador Board applications are due September 8, 2026. Please complete this application. Acceptance notifications will be sent by September 11, 2026.

Why?
The Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board gives Ohio’s teens an unparalleled opportunity to engage in government and law. Students address some of the greatest issues facing our state and develop solutions to help improve the lives of Ohioans. Ambassadors have the opportunity to receive training on important and pertinent matters, meet with elected officials and interact with assistant attorneys general.

The Friends of Academics (FOA) put on a WONDERFUL Paint-your-parking spot event recently. Students and families had a great time painting their spots and making them uniquely their own. A reminder, FOA acknowledges student academic accomplishments via awards, luncheons, and scholarships. To contribute to these achievement recognitions, kindly consider making a donation to FOA through their Venmo account @lhs-foa.

Immunization Requirements Immunization Requirements

The Ohio Department of Health requires immunization with the Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine before entry into 12th grade at LHS or WCCC. Your student may have already received one dose of this vaccine, but a second dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday. If your student has not had these immunizations, please make arrangements for them to receive them as soon as possible. This immunization can be obtained from your family physician, the Warren County Health Department, or the surrounding area clinics and pharmacies. Proof of immunization or immunization exemption* must be provided to the nursing office by September 3, 2026, or by Ohio law, your student will be excluded from school. You can submit them through fax 513.933.2150 or email at specht.brittani@lebanonschools.org or green.tamberly@lebanonschools.org.

* Per Ohio Revised Code and school board policy, a student may be exempted from immunization if a parent or guardian objects for good cause, including religious conviction, or if there is a medical condition that prohibits immunization. It will be attached to this email.

Gifted Education News Gifted Education News

Hello! My name is Beth Deuer. I am the Gifted Education and ELA Coach for grades 7-12. This academic year is my third year in LCS. I have taught all levels of high school English including college prep and Advanced Placement in my twenty-six years of teaching in a previous district. I was a national reader of the AP English Language and Composition exam for eight years. I served for two years on the Department of Education and Workforce's Gifted Advisory Council and am a current member of the Scholarship Committee for the Ohio Association for Gifted Children. I am so excited to support educators in gifted education and ELA in Lebanon. I earned my teaching degree from Wake Forest University and my MAT from Miami. My gifted endorsement was earned through Ashland University. I enjoy reading (not only professional books), gardening, baseball, hockey, and travel. My favorite activity is spending time with my husband Jason and our rescue dog, Nutter Butter. Our daughter and son-in-law live in Beavercreek, so we visit them as often as possible.

Beginning next month, I will include news, updates, or resources for families of students who are gifted. If you have any questions, please contact me at deuer.elizabeth@lebanonschools.org. Thank you.
