Halloween at HGE. A big thank you to PAC for hosting the pumpkin walk and raising $366.55 in the Quarter Wars! The lucky teacher that gets to wear her Halloween costume on November 2 is ..... Mrs. Casorso.
Battle of the Books Club has begun for grade 3s , 4s and 5s . Those students who would like to join, it's not too late! Battle of the Books Club is a district wide reading program to encourage the love of reading and to expose students to a variety of authors and genres. Books have been pre-selected by our districts teacher-librarians and Grade 4s and 5s have a list of 8 books to read by April and Grade 3s have a list of 5 books to read by April. At the beginning of April, eight students will be chosen to represent Helen Gorman at the district competition after a school battle answering questions about the books. The focus of the Battle of the Books Club is on having fun, working as a team and reading new books!
Please see Mrs. Hardman if you are in grades 3, 4, or 5 and would like to sign up for the Battle of the Books club this year!

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5 student(s) who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Virginia Nymeyer by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
