Tiger News from Principal Stilwell
Information and communication for Garfield Families
Dear Garfield Families,
As we head into this short week and wrap up the first semester, I want to share how proud I continue to be of our students and all they accomplish each day. Their curiosity, kindness, and hard work make our school a joyful place to learn and grow.
I also hope your students came home buzzing with excitement after our incredible author visit with Ben Clanton on Friday. His creativity and enthusiasm inspired both staff and students, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from him.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Here’s to a strong finish to Semester One!
All the best,
Kathy Stilwell

February 10 - Everett Public Schools Bond and Levy
School Construction Bond and Education Levy: Reducing our use of portable classrooms
Families often ask why so many schools rely on portable classrooms. Today, Everett Public Schools uses 103 portables across our elementary schools, which is equivalent to the size of two and a half elementary schools. These portable classrooms were needed to help our district keep up with growth, but were never meant to be a permanent solution for our students. On February 10, 2026, voters will consider two measures that address this ongoing space challenge.
Proposition 1, the School Construction Bond, would fund a new elementary school and add permanent classrooms at existing schools, helping reduce the reliance on portable classrooms. The proposal also includes rebuilding Lowell Elementary, improving learning spaces at Cascade and Everett High schools, and updating roofs, heating and cooling systems, playgrounds, and safety features districtwide.
Proposition 2, the Education Levy, is a renewal measure. It is not a new tax. The levy continues funding for staffing, academic programs, student services, and day-to-day school operations that are not fully covered by the state.
Both these measures will be on the ballot on February 10.

PTA Meeting - Monday January 26
Please join us for our PTA meeting on Monday, January 26 at 4:00 PM. We’ll be gathering in the Music Room, and childcare will be available in the cafeteria.
During the meeting, I’ll be sharing important information about the upcoming Bond and Levy—including the specific ways they support Garfield Elementary—and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Hope to see you there!
