HEALTH REMINDERS FROM THE NURSE
We're in the home stretch before summer. Let's finish strong! A few friendly reminders to help keep everyone healthy:
- Wash hands regularly
- Drink plenty of water and aim for 7-8 hrs of restful sleep
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Clean high-touch surfaces such as door handles, kitchen tables, light switches, and tablets/phones
I've included our exclusionary guidelines below so you know when students are sent home and when they should stay home to prevent the spread of illness.
Warmly,
Jenny Hefele BSN, RN (she/her)

THREE CHEERS FOR ATKINSON VOLUNTEERS!
We are so thankful for all our Atkinson volunteers! We couldn't do so many things without you!
THE PTA AUCTION WAS AN INCREDIBLE SUCCESS!
A huge shout out to the parents who spear-headed the entire event: Harmony Quiroz and Michelle Luu-George. What an amazing job you did! Thank you!
"PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY" FUN!
We had the joy of having our honorary Principal for a Day, "Principal Kathryn," at Atkinson on Wednesday! As one of the auction items from the PTA auction last weekend, Principal Kathryn got to wear a very smart blazer, open doors with her official badge, make announcements over the loud speaker and radio, check in on classrooms, and lead our all-school assembly. She did a great job!

THIRD GRADERS MADE A QUILT!
This quilt was made from all recycled materials by the students in Ms. Laurie's third grade class. The kids each drew a nature scene. The back is a wool blanket from Pendleton Mills with a tag from the Hudson Bay Company. The kids had studied Portland Our History and they learned about the settlers that came to this area from the Hudson Bay Company. This will be their author's chair when the students are sharing their writing.

UPCOMING SAFETY DRILLS
PPS works hard to ensure that all staff and students are trained to respond effectively and efficiently during an emergency at or near school. One of the many ways we accomplish this is through our mandatory drill requirements. These drills are essential in ensuring our school community is as prepared as possible for emergency situations. Atkinson's emergency drill schedule for the remainder of the school year is as follows:
- Friday, May 15 — Evacuation/Fire Drill
- Monday, June 1 — Evacuation/Fire Drill
