Message from Head of School
It has been another busy yet exciting week across the school.
I have also had a fantastic time being back in the classroom and seeing teaching and learning in action across the school. It was a real pleasure to teach a Reception phonics lesson and to work with Year 6 on an English creative writing lesson. Being able to teach alongside our staff and spend time learning with our children is something I really value, and it has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, creativity and curiosity first-hand.
💬 You shared, we listened, and we have taken action! 🤝
Listening to the views of our school community is incredibly important to us. Over the past few months, we have been listening carefully to feedback from both parents and pupils about the events, experiences and opportunities that are an important part of school life and help to build our sense of community.
Disco
We have received lots of lovely feedback from parents and pupils about how much the school discos have been enjoyed in the past and how they have been an important part of the school community. We have listened, and we are delighted to announce that our first disco will take place on Thursday 22nd October! 🎉
To make it extra special as part of our 90th anniversary celebrations, our first disco will have a 90s Neon theme! 🌈✨
We are really looking forward to bringing this much-loved event back and creating more opportunities for our children to enjoy time together, have fun and build those special school memories.
School Photos
We have also listened to feedback from parents about our previous school photography provider. Feedback highlighted that the service was quite costly and that the quality was not always to the standard we had hoped for.
In response, we have reached out to Sue, who has been a long-standing member of the Benhurst community and has supported the school over the years by capturing wonderful photographs of our pupils. We are delighted that Sue will be returning in October, starting with individual pupil photographs, followed by class photographs later in the academic year.
We are really looking forward to welcoming Sue back to Benhurst and continuing to capture those special moments for our children and families.
School Lunch Menu
Parental feedback has been warmly welcomed as we explore ways to make our school lunch menu more varied, inclusive and reflecting the diverse needs and preferences of our school community.
We have also met with our catering company to review the current menu and consider how we can offer a wider range of choices for our pupils. We are planning ahead in line with the Government’s School Food Standards and, over the coming week, we will be involving our pupils through pupil voice, giving them the opportunity to look at and provide feedback on the draft menu before it goes live after the October half term.
Have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead! 😊

We are looking forward to celebrating this special year with our children, families and wider school community. 💚
📅 Please see the poster for more information and save the dates for our key events. We can’t wait to celebrate 90 years of Benhurst together! ✨
☕ Our First Coffee Break
We held our first Coffee Break of the year, giving families an opportunity to connect with the school and find out more about important areas of school life.
This session included information and guidance around attendance, highlighting the importance of children being in school regularly and on time so that they can make the most of every learning opportunity. Thank you to everyone who joined us and engaged positively with the information shared.

Welcome to Year 4 Newsletter
Maths
This week, we have been developing our understanding of place value and using number lines to work with numbers up to 10,000.
English
In English, we have been exploring the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. We have also been focusing on developing and improving our own writing.
History
Our Ancient Greece learning has continued as we explored chronology and practised putting historical events in the correct order. We have also begun creating artwork for our whole-school Harvest display, thinking carefully about the important role farmers play in providing the food we enjoy. What a fantastic week of learning!
Science
In science, we have been learning all about teeth and investigating the effect that acid can have on enamel using eggs, water and vinegar. Our classrooms may currently smell rather strongly of vinegar but our experiment is already producing some fascinating results! We are observing our eggs throughout the week and can already see changes in those exposed to even a small amount of acid.
Our Core Value for this half term is: Ambition

School Grid Dinner Booking System
What is School Grid?
SchoolGrid is a modern and user-friendly online meal-ordering platform. It gives parents greater convenience, control, and transparency when managing their child's school meals through a secure online account.
How it works?
- Using the SchoolGrid app, parents can easily order and plan meals in advance, and place same-day meal orders up until 9:00am.
- The platform enables parents to view menus, recipes, and ingredient information, allowing them to make informed decisions about their child's meal choices and dietary requirements.
- It features industry-leading allergy and dietary protection controls, helping to ensure that meals are suitable for individual dietary requirements.
- It is easier for parents to order compared to the current system
- It provides more detailed meal information
- It allows later on the day ordering
To ensure the safe and effective implementation of SchoolGrid, the school will share essential pupil information with the platform, including your child's name, class, age, and any recorded allergy or dietary information. This will help ensure that every child can enjoy a nutritious, suitable, and allergen-safe meal each day, supporting their health, wellbeing, and development.
