Eagle Update
Archer Glen Elementary | October 16, 2025
A Message from Principal Woofter
October is always a busy month on campus - and it is already halfway over!
A few pieces of helpful information:
Today, we participated the annual Great Oregon ShakeOut as part of an international safety preparedness program, where millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills on the same day. This year’s earthquake drills was held today for all of Oregon at 10:16 am. All schools and district facilities will participate in this annual drill, and this is the first of two earthquake drills that will be practiced by our locations this year.

Lock Down Drills
At the Sherwood School District, we know you entrust your children to us each day and we do not take that responsibility lightly. The District has worked diligently over the years to establish comprehensive safety protocols and emergency procedures in order to help keep our students and staff safe -- on a daily basis, and in the unlikely event of an emergency.
During the past few weeks, we have been educating our students about emergency procedures. During the next few weeks, we will be conducting district-wide emergency drills in order to give our students and staff an opportunity to practice what they know. We have taken great care to make sure our conversations about this topic are age appropriate, and we want you to be aware of our drills so you can visit with your children at home, too.
On Tuesday, October 21st, Archer Glen will be practicing a Lock Down Drill at 1:30 pm. Other district administrators, and possibly the Sherwood Police, will be on-site to observe and provide feedback for our drill. If you are around our campus during the time of our drill, please do not be alarmed by the increased police or admin presence.
If you arrive during a drill, you will not be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to exit until the drill concludes. Please plan ahead if you need to drop off or pick up your student during the day of a drill.
Tomorrow is School Picture Day! There is information further down in the newsletter to help ensure your child has a great photo taken.
Remember that we will have Fall Conferences next Thursday, October 23nd and Friday, October 24th. You should have received an email message from your child's teacher providing the link to sign up for a conference time on Thursday, October 9th. Both days will be No School Days at the elementary level. We are excited to have a chance to share more about your child’s progress here at Archer Glen! Additionally, we will have the Scholastic Book Fair open on those days for parents to do any shopping while they are here.
We are also excited to host fall harvest parties this year! Students will be allowed to wear costumes at school; however, the times for that will vary depending on the class. Your child's teacher will share those details as the date gets closer. Please know that all costumes need to be appropriate (no violence, weapons, fake blood, face masks, or full face paint) and, ideally, something that your child can take on and off fairly or completely independently. Each class will be running their own celebration and those may look different from class to class. In the event that party volunteers are needed, please know that all volunteers will need to have a completed volunteer background check for the 2025/2026 school year. Please note that background checks are taking 2-3 weeks to clear, so if you are hoping to volunteer at the end of the month, please complete those steps ASAP. More information to come from teachers soon!
Kindly,
Sarah

October is Farm to School Month!
Nutrition Services partners with Our Table Cooperative and Hood River Organics to bring organic, fresh, locally-sourced food to our schools! This year, students have enjoyed organic cantaloupe, honeydew, Italian plums, apples, pears, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers -- all grown right here in Oregon!

Volunteers
The District will be welcoming volunteers back into our school buildings this year. All volunteers will need to complete and have an approved background check on file prior to volunteering (this must be renewed each school year). The background check process can take 7-10 business days, so please allow sufficient processing time if you are planning to volunteer for a specific event.
HelpCounter Volunteer Information
Our Archer Glen Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is creating an updated email list for school information and other ways to support our school. If you are looking to volunteer at Archer Glen this year, please sign up using the link shared here. If you are new to Archer Glen you will need to create a new login. Past volunteers can use their old sign in. (Please note that this link does not work well on your phone so you will need to use another device).
ALL parents will need to fill out their information again as the system gets updated each fall. The registration will ask some questions about volunteer preferences, please still answer the questions and select all activities you might be interested in learning more about!
You can find out more information about how to sign up for volunteer opportunities at Archer Glen using HelpCounter by visiting Archer Glen PAC's Instagram handle here.
